Ok, so my bro called me one day and said this:

Brother: "Hee hee, have you seen Brawl in Cell Block 99?"

Me: "Nope, sounds weird."

Brother: "giggle giggle, You should watch it. Vince Vaughn is a bad ass in it."

Me: "Nope, don't believe that."

Brother: "tahee heee hee hee. Just watch it. It's free if you have Amazon Prime."

Me: "Fine, just leave me alone."

Watched Brawl in Cell Block 99.

VINCE VAUGHN IS A CERTIFIED BAD ASS! Has anybody else watched this movie?! Holy shit! I know it's super weird and sensitive because of the nature of what happens in prison, but I want a prison Rockstar Game!

Watch this movie!

I seen the movie a few weeks ago, I am in no way capable of reviewing a movie but I can confirm that V.V. Is a bad ass in that rediclous (in a good way) movie.

I watched it a few weeks ago after enjoying the last movie the director made, Bone Tomahawk. Brawl in Cell Block 99 is pretty good too. They're quite similar in style, starting off fairly slow for the first 30 minutes and gradually building up to some really intense action scenes later on.

You need to have a strong stomach to get through them. I am usually not affected by gory violent stuff in movies, but both of these films pushed me to the point of looking away at times. So if you watch it with someone who's not into brutal graphic violence maybe warn them first.

Thanks for the tip! This had popped up in my "recommended movies" a few times, but I'd overlooked it. Turns out it was really great!

I'm not an action movie guy, but I have to see this for myself. I don't even like Vince Vaughn, and yet, I kinda want to see him be a badass. It'd be like if you said Owen Wilson had a movie where he wrecked shop. Of course I'm there, haha.

@upperdecker:

Yep, that's, uh, pretty much word for word how our conversation went.

It is a good movie, though. Jennifer Carpenter's pretty great in it too, and it's nice to know Udo Kier's still kicking it.

I wasn't crazy about it but totally worth a watch for the handful of great scenes.

I liked it. It didn't wow me like Bone Tomahawk did, but it's definitely an interesting film. It's definitely Vince Vaughn's best performance.

So far S. Craig Zahler is an interesting counterpart to Quentin Tarantino. They both essentially make grindhouse films with modern sensibilities, but with very different approaches. Tarantino revels in the excesses of grindhouse films, while Zahler grounds his films with complex characters and performances. I'm really interested to see what he does next.

You never realize what a giant monster Vince Vaughn is because he usually plays a shlubby guy not someone who could kill a dude with his bare hands.
