Already posted on Tested but just wondered if anyone here had any input.
Here's the back story my laptop just can't handle playback of multiple channels on Reason and I'm forced to write sparse tracks to keep under the CPU limit. What I want to do is build a PC that is built just for the purpose of running programs like Reason and Reaper well, so I don't have to worry about hitting the CPU limiter anymore. I intend to keep using my laptop for normal use so this PC hasn't got to do much else other than to run power hungry music software.
The max I can go money wise is £500-700.
Don't need monitor, keyboard, mouse, large hard drive, speakers, high end graphics card for games.
This below is pretty much the final specs so any last minute suggests let me know.
| Category | Part | Price | Comment |
|---|---|---|---|
| CPU | Intel Sandybridge i5-2500K Unlocked Core i5 Quad-Core Processor (3.30GHz, 6MB Cache, Socket 1155) | £162.48 | Would go with i7 but it's a waste of money for what i would use it for. |
| Motherboard | Asus P8P67 PRO REV 3.0 LGA1155 Intel P67 DDR3 ATX (B3 Stepping) | £134.98 | Read it works well with CPU |
| Video Card | PNY Technologies nVIDIA GeForce GT 430 | £59.14 | This or the Asus version I don't know. |
| Optical Drive | Sony AD-5260S-0B 24x Internal DVDRW SATA Black Bare | £11.99 | Just picked the first one which came up on Amazon. |
| RAM | Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Vengeance Memory Two Module Kit | £59.80 | This was in a bundle with the CPU so I guess it's compatible. |
| Storage | Samsung 1TB Spinpoint F3 7200rpm SATA 3Gb/s 32MB | £39.99 | Was going to go SSD but I can't afford 128 GB and 60GB is to small |
| Power | Corsair TX Series, 650 Watt, ATX, PS/2, Power Supply, UK Version (CMPSU-650TXUK) | £64.99 | Changed from 500w to 650w and Corsair is a good make. |
| Case | Cooler Master Elite 335 Mid Tower ATX PC Case - Black | £35.85 | Might go with Jeff's case but would prefer to put money in to components |
| Sound Card | Will get one at a later date. | ||
| OS | Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium OEM 64-bit 1pk | £73.99 | Bye Vista. |
| Extras | A few SATA cables | I have no idea if these parts come with SATA cables so I need to work out how many I need. | |
| Total=£643.21 |
