Butter is the correct choice here. And yeah, like Xtrememuffinman said, it tastes far better.

Both. As long as people don't use too much when they cook my food.

I was going to vote butter (because it produces a nice, close shave) but then I saw the Pat Buchanan option. I love Pat.

Cooking - Margarine
Because it's better (read: not AS bad) for you and you can't tell the difference in most foods

Straight - Butter
Because when its a main ingredient (ie: on toast) it just tastes Soooo much better

I'm a fan of butter, even though I grew up with I Can't Believe It's Not Butter. I like them both, and keep them both in the fridge, but most of the time I go for butter... Except when making ham sandwiches, for some reason.

Having worked in a milk products factory, I can safely say Butter is the way to go.

Margarine is too much like plastic.

Depends, some butter is awesome, some butter is shit. Overall butter wins, but if there is average butter and nice margarine then margarine trumps mediocre butter.

Because I like to cook I choose butter.  I can't tell the difference on toast, but when it's heated butter smells and tastes so  much better.

Butter for everything else cold sandwichs.  Then I prefer Margine, it spreads easier and tastes a little better in that context.

Butter and margarine are fine, but nothing goes better with whitebread than Pat Buchanan.

If you mean by the definition of plastic as capable of being molded or shaped then yes it is, and so it butter. But if you mean it is like synthetic polymers which we call plastic then no it's nothing like that at all. This is some stupid myth that is constantly perpetuated and is simply untrue.

Yes I meant more so the texture, which is like butter.

I'm interested in hearing the "other"'s... I cannot think of a different butter-like substance.

Butter is far superior, but it's dumb to eat it all the time. I'm not exactly healthy, but even I save butter for special occasions.
