X-files

I know you said no real old stuff but the original Twilight Zone is still great even the original Outer Limits to a lesser extent.

Why are people bringing up Terra Nova without just laughing at it?

+1 for Battlestar and Firefly.

The lack of people suggesting BSG and Firefly is fucking disgraceful. I would also say Farscape, it gets a bit crazy but it's still good.

Actually, if we're being a bit loose with the term sci-fi, I gotta suggest MisFits. That show is amazing.

I'm sorry... you keep saying "sic-fi". Well, it seems like you got Star Trek covered, unless you haven't seen the original series. Here are two that I'll mention, both of them having one season, and neither of them have I seen once, but I have a DVD set of one of them, and that one is Called Earth2. I didn't really want to watch it after I looked at the case and read what it was about on Wikipedia, but I read it did pretty well. And another is Firefly, that's also a show I didn't ever watch, but I hear it was great.

I just mentioned both of them because they both only had one season, but they both did alright, Firefly better though. I mention Earth2 because I doubt anyone else was going to. Also, I don't know what's up with people loving Battlestar Galactica, but the one thing I absolutely hate in that show, that makes me not want to watch it, is the acting. It's not so much the actors, I like them for the most part, but the acting is overly dramatic, even when it doesn't have to be, or it simply doesn't seem to be as real as other shows that depict emotions, like Star Trek: TNG, so I couldn't at all get into the characters. The story I'm sure is fine, and the ending to it all is very interesting.

Simple, Firefly. Shame it's only 14 episodes and one movie :( One of my all time favourite series.

I HIGHLY recommend Cowboy Bebop and I loathe anime if it's not called Akira, Ghost in the Shell(The movie. C'mon let's not get crazy here) or is produced by Studio Ghibli.

EDIT: Oh yeah and X-Files. How could I forget that!?

EDIT 2: If you're willing to go into the deep end, try some of the old Twilight Zone. It's a bit out there as far as structure and writing and the production is well old duh.

Here are five must-see's motherfucker.

1: The X-Files. Starting with Season One all the way through Season Six (you can ignore the stuff after Mulder left and they brought in the T1000 dude). One of the greatest Sci-Fi shows of all time, absolutely fantastic. The entire series is on Netflix too. The PQ is awful on Netflix though, better to watch on DVD.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2: Firefly. Very well written, very often over-the-top (but in an enjoyable way). It's like Cowboy Bebop in space, a sweeping Western Space Opera. A must-watch if you dig Sci Fi. There's only a handful of episodes (unfortunately) so you can fly right through it. Has a very high quality BD release.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3: Battlestar Galactica(2003), Very character driven. The Sci Fi elements are completely secondary to the character development and it can get soap opera-ish at times but that isn't to say it isn't worth watching. Looks great on BD too.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4: Fringe. A new show (it's on Fox) that borrows pages directly from the book of the X-Files, and that's definitely not a bad thing. Very Sci-Fi oriented in the traditional sense, and John Noble as Walter is mind-blowingly good. The upcoming season will be its last, so you can catch up now and be there when it ends. You said:

@JohnPyn said:

I like time travel, parallel universes, mysteries (like Lost) but I don't like love stories (there were a little too many on lost but i liked it anyway), I also don't like if they're always fighting because of non-important reasons like in stargaze universe. I like sic-fi in general but if it has time travel then i'll really be grateful!

Well, Fringe definitelty has touches of a love story but time travel, mysteries, and parallel universes (especially parallel universes) are literally the 3 core elements of the show. I doubt you'll find a show that features these three themes so prominently and does it so well. The Blu Ray releases of the first 3 seasons look great and the 4th Season will be released this September.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5: Cowboy Bebop. I'm not a big anime guy but this series is a classic and a must-see in my opinion (and definitely qualifies as Sci Fi). The English voice dub is fantastic and the character development and writing are superb... the sondtrack is a classic too.

EDIT: mbr2 is now editing my suggestions into his post above mine. I will find you mbr2, I'll find you and I will rape the shit out of you.

EDIT 2: I just noticed you mentioned you already watch Fringe in your opening post. Quick mbr2 you fruitcake, edit that suggestion into your post so it doesn't look like I'm the first motherfucker to make this mistake. Don't hang me out to dry here.

sliders,

I watched through most of sliders on netflix not to long ago, and while it falls off a cliff after a few seasons, there are some great episodes. The ability to create a whole new universe every episode was a great idea, but as more and more of the cast went away it gets worse and worse. If you pick and choice your way through the episodes there are some great ones. As I was going through the whole series I would watch the first few minutes of the episode to see what the twist in the universe was than just skipped ahead.

If anyone who like Farscape,Andromeda or Firefly would surely enjoy on level the aesthetic of this show.

However...to think about it...the one sci fi show..if you can it mirror most... Mystery Science Theater 3000. Now now I know it sounds like madness you will see.

It was very dark , very weird and very perverse, However it was very good very funny and very entertaining.

I give you LEXX.

There is just so much to say to explain LEXX.

I will let LEXX himself explain.

It was an absolutely fantastic series, It had a number of well known actors pass through. Malcom Mcdowel and Tim Curry. Tim Curry's part as the Poet it was fantastic.

Another great Sci fi was

Space above and beyond.

The best thing to say it is akin to, is Babylon5 meets Startship troopers.

A pretty poor trailer however shows you what it is like. It is from 1995 so it was before Starship Troopers boomed onto movie screens.

CMON PEOPLE!! Their drill sergeant was the most icon Drill Sergeant! Gunny R. Lee Ermey!!

The series is about humans being at war with an unknown alien race, one of their long range colonies was newly established only to be bombed and burned by the unknown enemy and soon followed was other outer colonies being attacked and completely eradicated.

We follow mainly West, who signs up for the Marines to find out what happened to his fiancee who was on the colony mission when it was attacked by the "Chiggs" he too was supposed to be on board however an error occurred and wasn't allowed on. With West purely wanting to get out onto the frontlines and more so only get to the colony and find the fate of his fiancee means he isn't realy in it for the fight, and he isn't in it for friends.

Going through boot camp he meets the people who will be his squad mates and each one has their own shadows and reasons for joining the marines.

This is just a great Sci fi series, filled with awesome action sequences, intrigue, story lines and character development.

And it is from the producer from the X-Files apparently?

Who is the one man....the one man you think should be in the ocean? The one man that has faced off against a GIANT SHARK!!

Sci Fi series Seaquest DSV Not Ryan Seacrest! ROY SCHEIDER!! When they said "Your gonna need a bigger boat!" He got one! A giant submarine!

By the mid-21st Century, humankind has colonized the oceans and formed the UEO--the United Earth Oceans--as a military organization to police it. Formerly a high-ranking member of the UEO, Nathan Bridger retired after the death of his wife, and retreated to an isolated island to study dolphins. An attempt is made to hijack the Seaquest DSV, the UEO's most powerful undersea vessel, and Nathan--its original designer--is convinced to return to active service, to assume command of it. His second in command is Cmdr. Jonathan Ford. In second season, the DSV added Dagwood, a prototype GELF (Genetically Engineered Life Form), Tony Piccolo, a man with surgically implanted gills, and Dr. Wendy Smith, a telepath/empath, to its crew of specialists. The series has New Age leanings, often presenting stories that deal with environmental issues or mix myth and mysticism--from ghosts to "gods"--into its science fiction.

It ran for a lot of years with a number of known names being involved.

This series is important to ANY Stargate SG1 fans. Why? This is a huge influence on the Deluise brothers who became director and producers for SG1 and the following series's after. It does feel alot like Stargate so it shouldn't be alien to any SG1 fans. I urge a watch.

DSV had Steven Spielberg down as executive producer. which leads nicely too!

Steven Spielberg's Taken. A realy great mini series.

Taken spans five decades and four generations, centering on three families: the Keys, Crawfords, and Clarkes. World War II veteran Russell Keys is plagued by nightmares of his abduction by aliens during the war; the Roswell incident transforms Owen Crawford from ambitious Air Force captain to evil shadow government conspirator; the unhappily married Sally Clarke is impregnated by an alien visitor. As the decades go by, the heirs of each are affected by the machinations of the aliens, culminating with the birth of Allie Keys, who is the final product of the aliens' experimentation and holds the key to their future.

Another Sci-fi series that is of note,Is Dark Skies. Not to be mixed up with the recent Falling Skies.

20th century history as we know it is a lie. Aliens have been among us since the 1940's, but a government cover-up has prevented the public from knowing this. As the series progresses, we follow John Loengard and Kim Sayers as they attempt to thwart numerous plans of the alien Hive, most of which are tied to historical events and figures. In addition, the pair must stay one step ahead of a covert government agency, Majestic-12, tasked with fighting the aliens while maintaining the conspiracy of silence.

So that alone has MJ-12 for Duex fans it rings with, and with the upcoming Xcom what better series you watch?

There was also the weird Sci fi comedy series from Rob Grant.

The Strangerers.

A scifi comedy written by Rob Grant and broadcast on Sky One.

Three alien agents which are incredibly advanced and evolved vegetables on a mission to Earth take on human form. They are mistakenly abandoned, and their supervisor is accidentally decapitated. The two surviving agents must learn how to survive among humans.

It was a weird short series, funny none the less.

The outer limits from the 90s was always something worth to watch. So many great short stories in that series.

Space Precinct anyone? I watched as child...I sorta say no. However this is what happens when Gerry Anderson is given live action people to put into a show. Why do I say that because it was Gerry Anderson! The man behind such famous Puppet tv shows as Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Jo 90 and other.

HOWEVER!! Alien Nation!

Based off the movie Alien Nation, it is just a nice little show.

Should watch the movie first I think.

The TV serise.

Ill stop it now. I donno how peoples internet will take to all these videos.

I'd suggest Torchwood I guess you'd like it if you liked Dr who same universe and Captain Jack is the protagonist but the last season "Miracle Day" wasn't well received and another season looks less and less likely but I enjoyed it and the older seasons are pretty damn good if a little goofy at times but hey so is earlier new who.

In terms of current shows Falling skies jump to mind, it just finished season 2. It's about a post- alien invasion earth where they're already pretty much beat and are trying to fight back there is some good mystery a to it and I like it although it focuses more on the people than the sci-fi alien invasion part at times.

Heroes was great, not 100% Sci Fi but a great show none the less.

Let me fix that for you:

The first season, minus it's last episode, of Heroes was great. Then is absolutely falls apart.

Heroes stands as one of my greatest TV disappointments. A very good example of a show that had some brilliant and creative ideas, but only enough for a season. It should have been written as a single, self-contained season and left at that.

I really like FarScape.

Also, Heroes, but I can only vouch for the first 1.5-2 seasons. Pretty sure that show bombed hard after that, but the first season is incredible.

So the first season was by far the best season, in fact it would have been better for the TV show in the long run if it had just been that one season. But I enjoyed the last season, and there were some good episodes and story arcs in the 2nd/3rd and 4th. But I agree that it fell off a little past the first, when Noah was killed in season 2 it was fantastic and one of the high points, but at the end of the episode they brought him back so it lost its emotion.
