" Big Daddy Kane, A Tribe Called Quest, Organized Konfusion, OC, Big L, Gang Starr, Eric B. and Rakim, KRS One, De La Soul and Public Enemy. These are really great artists that were in their prime early 90's "All of this, plus what Suicrat said. Plus I'd chuck in MC Solaar's early stuff. Sure, it's all in French, but it's great.
"Marky Mark son. Best rapper of all time. "
Screw all of yous who deny the awesomeness that is Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. Honestly, "Good Vibrations" is one of my favorite songs ever.
Um, I think Fr0Br0 got a good group of artists going. I dunno what you're looking for specifically. Like 80's rap, back when it was still a start-up genre? Or 90's gangsta rap or what?
If 80's rap music is your thing (and It has aged well- besides great movies, music is possibly the only thing that'll never age) check Big Daddy Kane, Kurtis Blow, Grandmasta Flash, Afrika Bambaataa and the Soulsonic Force, Ice-T (his old stuff is way different from his "gangsta" stuff), Captain Rock,Melle Mel, 3rd Bass, Beastie Boys (of course),Run DMC, Richie Rich, Marley Marl, Digital Underground, Doug E. Fresh, Fab 5 Freddy, LL Cool J, Cold Crush Brothers, and the entire soundtrack album to the greatest hip-hop movie ever, Wild Style.
90's gangsta rap is different but amazing as well- anything by any member of NWA is worth listening to, I feel. Also see: Snoop Doggy Dogg ("Doggystyle"), Ice T, Notorious B.I.G., Tupac, Geto Boys, Wu-Tang Clan, Nas and pretty much anything from Radio Los Santos in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.
Love this thread, easily my fave in the past few months.
