My sister-in-law and a family friend who had leukaemia as a child are both shaving their heads this Sunday (TODAY!) and are fundraising for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children which helps children with cancer in Northern Ireland and their families by providing practical, emotional and financial support through its Youth & Family Programmes, Road Miles & Home Heating schemes and respite at Shimna Valley, near Newcastle and Narnia, a purpose built Log Cabin for young people.

In Nicola, my sister-in-law's words:

In March 2014 the no make up selfie generated millions of pounds for cancer charities around the world. During this time a friend of mine suggested that we go one step further and shave our hair....a scary prospect, but one which I hope will help to raise funds for a special service here in Northern Ireland. We will be facing the clippers on Sunday 1st June (more details to follow soon).

With your help I hope to raise £1050 for Daisy Lodge, a unique mountain lodge style building which will offer short breaks to children and families 'at any stage in their cancer journey'. The recently opened lodge provides therapeutic breaks to 'families nursing a child with cancer, bereaved families and families in which a parent has been diagnosed with cancer.' £350 can provide a family with a short therapeutic break so if I reach my target 3 families will be able to visit Daisy Lodge. More information about Daisy Lodge and the work of Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children can be found at www.nicfc.com/

If anyone cares do make a small donation at http://www.justgiving.com/headshave1000 it would be very much appreciated!

UK users can also donate by texting 'HEAD97 £2' to 70070 or whatever value you like where it says "£2" - both donations to the website and via text can also give additional GiftAid contributions if you are a UK taxpayer.
