Maybe they are, but the real question is... Does an architecture student have time to play games?
I'm finding it really hard to do so. I have lots of projects to do:
Study lots and lots of art history specifically architecture history, which is very interesting but it consumes lots of time, mainly because before collage i was (actually, I still am) an art incult. Is it because I came from a science based high school? Maybe my parents didn't emphasize enough how important culture was? I have lots of questions like these but I'll start by saying that it's not my parents fault for sure. My lack of interest failed me there... There's still time to recover, though. It'll have some pressure, like exam-pressure, but hey! I guess I failed to do it the easy way.
I'm hoping to become a really good architect, and I'm really hoping that Portugal being the second best architect "creator" in Europe is an incentive and not just a title.
Being so, I'll have to work really hard, like never before in my life, meaning I'll have to partially abdicate of my gaming lifestyle. My objective is to turn architecture not just a job but also a hobby, but has I've been told, it's kinda awkward having a hobby as a job, so I'll have to share the hobby list with gaming I suppose.
OK... I think it's enough for today, I'll post other thoughts later.
Just fulfilling my taste for writing, even if it's useless... it may sound silly but this is like a diary, maybe. A place to write as much as I want. I actually could write in word or any other program and saving it or even deleting afterwards, but it kind of feels that all my work of writing would be gone. No satisfaction there. It's like a trophy I guess. And you know what, it's a good way to practice my english writing...
Ah well, enough. I got to continue my project on Tugendhat house made by the notorious architect: Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. I might even post some stuff here later... wouldn't that be interesting?
College and Gaming not compatible?

collage= a form of art in which various materials such as photographs and pieces of paper or fabric are arranged and stuck to a backing.
college= an educational institution or establishment, in particular • one providing higher education or specialized professional or vocational training
ahahaha GOD! My bad xD hilarious and rather humiliating
@Video_Game_King:
Probably, I just haven't found the right path yet. I'll have to control my "addiction" much more
Well, Kirby's Epic Yarn is kind of a collage. So yes?
Making collages are awesome and fun so I don't see why it would be hard to make one about video games.
If you mean college, then yes and no. If you are taking the class serious you shouldn't have a lot of free time for games- depending on the course you take. Just gotta learn to make time by getting less sleep and not going out at nights. It means sacrificing some hobbies for another.
" Well, Kirby's Epic Yarn is kind of a collage. So yes? "
I was actually referring to college xD
Already edited the title.
You just can't game the same way you used to. See, a lot of gamers on message boards complain about not enough releases or games being too short but they must be very young and without responsiblity. Once you get older you dont have the time to play a lot of games so you want them to be fewer and shorter. Focusing on your career is good but I am sure you can find time.
" Dear god, you're here too?! Say hi to Rodrigo or whatever that chicks name is.. or half-dude "ahaah I will ze xD
On the DJ set Pendulum concert here on Lisbon!!! It's DJ set but still awesome...
Yes indeed. But beer is soooooooo goooood xD I guess I'll have to spend less time playing... or maybe just not play in school time like my parents once forced me to. I guess they were right after all lol
@AlisterCat:
Very well said, couldn't say it better myself.
I was thinking that but it never actually took form as words
Started uni 2 weeks ago and my gaming has definitely slowed down, you need to set out a time for yourself to play some games. I seem to have free time Wednesday afternoons and Fridays.
Education is more important at the end of the day though.
It is compatible. As a pharmacy student, I still was able to find time for games (though I definitely had more time during undergrad). It's all a matter of time management really. I found that if I actually use my time to study efficiently (instead of procrastinating like I did during undergrad), I end up with plenty of free time to play games, workout, or do other activities.
I mean, in the end, Games are a hobby, and although i'm sure you have alot of work(i know i do), theres always room for relaxing, i mean to be honest, its starting to look like only starcraft will survive the year as consistent game. But thats not to say i'm not finding time for other games, in fact, i box, swim, play cards at the casino, sign language and creative writing courses, and debating club :P. And i still find time to do my 3 essays a week, and do well on exams.
note: i even had one assignment where i had to write 120 pages in 3 weeks.
It just gets worse as you get older. When you graduate you'll have even less time than you do now. Then when/if you get married you'll find you have even less time. When/if you become a homeowner you'll find there is even more stuff you need to do. Finally if you ever have children you'll REALLY realize what it is to not have any time.
I actually scared my self for my lack of control...
@Vodun:
Best games from now on: Short and still awesome!
@Chabbs0:
That's not a bad idea at all. I'll keep that in mind. Maybe after swimming, since I'm all tired and there is no actual intention to restart working
@spazmaster666:
You know, my girlfriend is a nurse student (is that how you call it...?) and it freaks me out in a way because it's not like architecture at all. You have to study really much and put almost every new word that appears on one of those gigantic books in your brain. And there is a very important difference between our classes...: there is always a chance for you to skip the studying and leaving it to the end (not very wise but possible), while I have to make plans and house models every week. There is much handcraft (?) that sometimes can get tiresome. There is no way, NO way I can pass without working everyday.
It's a real change from highschool. I'll manage! I have to
@gamefreak9:
I'll start swimming (last year I didn't... god, i became so easily tired) 2 days a week
go out at night once
and play games maybe... one day a week
Last year I had a really interesting project where all students of every year of architecture participate. Groups of 6 to 7 people. I was the only one from the first year in my group, and still I was awake more than 60 hours in a row. I was a zombie in the end. xD
Dude... don't remind me of that xD
I'm actually getting prepared for one thing of that list. I'm studying far from home and parents, so I'm living with my twin bro in an apartment that my parents own.
That too takes a lot of time, more than I expected but it helps me grow as a person. So much more responsibilities now... damn
Gaming during college (and way back of course) got me into Ubisoft. Just sayin.
Don't just use gaming as entertainment, use it to learn the ways of the trade, that's if you want to get into the gaming industry in the first place, otherwise, if you are not gaining anything from gaming other than just entertainment, do it in moderation like everything else in life.
Actually I did gain something with assassins creed 2. It's amazing to visit Florence in the Renaissance. Although architecture isn't just the facade...
The philosopher Ernst Tugendhat lived in a house designed by a famous architect? Or what is "Tugendhat-house"?
Well you have to make sacrifices. Do you go to a party or do you play a game? Do you go on a date or play a game? Let me tell you, having a girlfriend can really cut into gaming time. In fact friends in general can cut into gaming time. You really have to choose between having a social life and gaming. I know it's a hard choice but I know you'll choose correctly. ;)
Also we call them nursing students and I'm not sure if there is a single word for building models, but handcraft isn't really correct. I would say the word drafting would cover it. Not perfect but it would get your point across. It means to draw or design sketches or plans of something. It can mean any drawing, but it is common in architecture to say when drawing or designing a layout or plan of a building that you are drafting. Hope that helps.
Ya i know what you mean, its my first year in university and I'm in a double degree for Math and Computer Science.
At one point I hadn't touched my games for 2 weeks and then when I go to turn on my PS3, BAM! YLOD(Yellow Light of Death) X(, i am going to try and spend my thanksgiving fixing it (P.S. I'm in Canada so thanksgiving is next week)
I just started my first semester of community college. I go Monday through Thursday and get home everday at 3. The problem is I'm always dead tired so I always have to choose, games or relax? I have a lengthy commute in the mornings so I cant stay up late either. It's been kind of deflating. I"m good at planning but I've just had a hard time finding time for my 360.
