Hey guys,
I apologize if this isn't the place for these kinds of posts or if self-promotion generally isn't acceptable, but I'd really love for some people to check this out and give me some feedback =)
I've been in the process of writing a musical for the past 2.5 years and have thrown together a medley (overture) of some of the 15-20 musical pieces I've written. Unfortunately, for now, it is all MIDI as I am having trouble getting my DAW to properly work with my VSTs and USB interface, but MIDI will do the job for this rough draft haha.
I'd really love any kind of feedback you guys can offer. What you like, what you hate, where it flows, where it feels awkward - anything =) I'm open to criticism and I'm definitely not posting this with the intention of changing everyone's life, simply a humble piece of work that I'd love to have adjudicated =)
Here is the link
Thanks a ton for checking this out =) Love the community here, glad I stopped lurking for the past few years and finally made an account!
<3
Edit: Oh yes, if you want to know what styles this has, it goes through some pop, some funk, a lot of metal, some laid back atmospheric bits, symphonic stuff... A ton, really =)
Edit 2: Sorry about not being able to post anymore! As I don't have enough overall posts, it will not let me post any new posts!
Come check out what I've been working on for 2.5 years =)
To sum up the story in one sentence: Imagine Norse mythology in modern times" A musical? About what? It'd help to know. "
So you're making Too Human: The Musical? Too Human wasn't that good to begin with, so you've already screwed yourself over :P.
" Going to go ahead and say the guy with 9 posts likes logging your kheys. If not, then not. "Er.... Wat?

" @Bassman2112:Haha, to be honest I hadn't even thought about Too Human. The story is still in the works (a bunch of placeholder names for characters, no specific situations set up yet, etc) so it may end up changing =P I'll be sure to keep it as far away from that as possible =P

But you've spent 2 and a half years working on it. Usually, you write the story first, then place the songs in later. Are you writing this around your songs?

It's pretty sick man.. I rap we should hook up and do some collaboratiing. You ever make any hip-hop sounding stuff?
I really like the piano part around the 7:15 mark and the part that follows that to the end.
Good Work!
Being a huge fan of prog metal, I think this is pretty damned awesome.
One question though - is this just a composition made in GarageBand or similar, or did you actually record yourself playing?
Sorry for taking so long to respond, guys! Apparently as I haven't posted much I have a cap of 5 posts per day, so I'll make these ones count from now on.

Though I followed up in a PM yesterday, I'll type it up here too.
This was all written and scored out for every part with Finale, which I then brought into Guitar Pro (by hand, took forever) and converted to MIDI. I will be recording some live instruments when I get my equipment working properly (and when I have some cash to spare) <3

" Oh man right around the 1:00 mark I was reminded of Earthbound. Sounds really good! 1:45 Final Fight?! I will continue listening. Good luck with your musical. "
=D Glad you can hear some of my early kid-hood influences there. I wanted to go for as cheesy and throwback-y as possible for some parts =D

I also responded to this one in a PM but wanted to do it here haha. I actually have a large portion of the story in a storyboard with placeholder names and settings for now. I did write a lot of music at the same time as I was writing the situations, but some of it was just music writing, some of it was just story writing. It's definitely not done yet, but it's pretty damn close.
I really appreciate all the interest and feedback you guys have shown, yet another affirmation of how much I love this community <3
