I don't.... I don't even.... Dan is either an idiot or a genius. Either way I love this guy so much. Along with his Pizza Roll Omelette, Dan has the early makings of a new cooking show, it needs to become a regular feature on the site! Let's call it "American Cookin' with Dan Ryckert"

He basically just dumped animal fat and sugar on popcorn.

I'd eat that, but my mouth is fucked enough. Don't need jelly bellies though. Silly Dan.

Edit: P.S. I am super worried that he is going to die young.

For anyone that happens to read this a safer way to achieve the same thing is to get some butter and warm it up (or margarine if you prefer) then sprinkle some sugar (powdered would probably work best) into the bowl as you warm it up- as much as you want to taste. It would achieve the same results and probably be a tad bit healthier just due to the amount of fat you'd be consuming (I mean it'd be proportionally less).

The fact that Dan has salt and pepper grinders, instead of just regular shakers, is super hilarious to me.

@cornbredx: Should be able to do it in a small pan with water and just slowly dissolve the jellybeans into a simple syrup if you really want to do it, the double boiler probably made this way harder. However instructing Dan to make a scalding hot sugar syrup on the stove top could be pretty dangerous.

@johncallahan: That was my favorite too. I love that he saw that and thought, "this would be good for mashing," not knowing that is its intended purpose.

@renahzor: I don't think Dan is that stupid- he is only a little naive and free spirited. It's a rare gift to be his age (only a little younger than me actually) and still have that. =P

And dissolving butter and mixing in sugar is as easy as using a microwave safe bowl and putting it in the microwave then mixing it when it dissolves. It's pretty safe for anyone.

Pretty sure dan will be fine. If he's as skinny as he is he must have a helluva metabolism. I love how much people freak out over others eating a little junk food (read: the taco bell thread, though i think most of it is in jest).

Dan for future reference, when you are trying to make an emulsion, put the oil with the dry good in the food processor. God speed sir. Your colon suffers so ours may live.

@ripelivejam: Not that I'm poo-pooing Dan's video or anything, but the amount of exterior fat on a person isn't the only indicator of what's going on in their arteries. I know a hyper-runner who appears thin but who had a blocked artery operated on this year due to his years of poor eating habits.

@ripelivejam: I replied a caution to that OP as it is incredibly dangerous and I wanted to share the dangers of it to anyone who happens to read it. Something interesting to consider is that you saying my comment was freaking out (or anyone who said less than I did about how unhealthy eating fast food everyday is- as I know you weren't specifically mentioning anyone) is being just as knee jerky.

My comment here is the same. Just concern because I hear Dan talking about his eating habits and video I have seen of it is actually fairly dangerous if done all the time. Whether he has a good metabolism or not (he seems to be in the same weight class as me) his arteries can still be screwed over. That have lasting effects fairly quickly- especially after you hit 30. "It's funny" until it happens. "It can't happen to me"- until it does.

I don't advocate stopping, or even eating healthy (as I said in that Fast Food Everyday thread, I eat fast food and junk food too- I'm no saint) I just advocate mindfulness and caution. Just in my own opinion it would be wrong for me to see a potentially life threatening thing and not mention moderation.

I'm impressed Dan used a double boiler. I was expecting him to make sugary caramel napalm by melting the jelly bellies in a pot over direct heat.

Olive oil was kind of gross. Melted butter would have worked better. The problem is google says whole Jelly Beans start to melt at 170f. Both butter and olive oil have smoke points at around that same temperature. Clarified butter would do the trick as it would taste better on popcorn than frying oils, has a really high smoke point, and is pretty easy to make.

Regardless, I'm thoroughly entertained that Dan thinks up shit like this.

Dan's cooking videos make me angry. Putting pizza rolls in a burnt-ass omelette is an affront to cooks everywhere.

DAN. JUST PUT BUTTER AND BROWN SUGAR IN A PAN AND MAKE CARAMEL INSTEAD. YOU WILL THANK ME.

I think there needs to be someone else present when Dan has these cooking experiments, have someone else apart from Dan try it because I'm not sure I trust his opinion that it tastes good.

Also he's edging closer to being some kind of performance art condemning American culture whether it's intentional or not.

With that said, Dan is pretty entertaining.

Just because you can...

Doesn't mean that Dan won't...

I wonder if we'll get that Cooking With Dan show/podcast soon!

EDIT

Also, fucking lol at that water pressure!

Also, that was a pathetic attempt at liquefying jelly beans! You need to get about three times hotter than you got there!

He sounded like he really enjoyed it. I'd try it myself if the cleanup didn't seem like it'd be crazy. I hate cleaning my blender blades.
