I wasn't all that sold on the Superman V. Batman trailer that was released over the weekend which made me kinda unsure about the direction DC movies were heading in the future. If there's one thing I learned about watching DC trailers is to not get your hopes up on just a trailer, but man does that Suicide Squad trailer look so good. It looks and feels totally different from Batman V. Superman and really feels like something that would fit in Christopher Nolan's Batman universe. Jared Leto's Joker was only in for a few seconds of the trailer but from what I've seen, he seems like he'll be a pretty awesome Joker. Film still has freakin' Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang in this film, and if there's anything I hate in films it's Jai Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard & Terminator Genisys).
DC Suicide Squad Trailer looks really, really good.
So they're sticking with Linkin Park Joker?
It's hard for me to get excited about this when I don't know who most of these villains are. I recognize Harley, Joker and Killer Croc (who looks pretty out of place). I don't remember ever getting a straight answer about Deathstroke being in the movie. I'd be a lot more interested if he was.
But... yeah... Jai Courtney.
I'm not seeing anything wrong with Jai Courtney and I've seen a good amount of the films he's in including Terminator. He's a believable actor to me.

Will Smith is Deadshot, Katana is in it (don't remember off hand who she is played by), Jai Courtney is Captain Boomerang, Viola Davis is Amanda Waller who is the head of ARGUS and the person responsible for the Squad.
Deathstroke is not in the movie from all other reports.
I'm trying to keep an open mind about this, but some of it's just offputting. Joker still seems over-the-top for even the Joker, to the point it may end up really flat from simply trying too hard. I've never liked Harley Quinn as a character at all. I'm actually okay with not knowing much about most of the others, because "new" characters are more interesting than, say, rebooting fucking Spider-Man again. The flipside of that coin is that maybe the B and C-team characters aren't well-known for good reason. It looks alright, I guess. I think it's definitely WAY premature to even really mention it with Nolan's Batman trilogy. I mean, they're definitely trying with this trailer to go for that style, but they'll have to pull off some real magic to actually make a film of that quality.
Also, Jai Courtney sucks.
@coolarman: NIce man, was waiting for an official one to come out.
I have to wonder how much of Batman will play in this film or if it's just a short cameo to tie-up the movie universe.
Can someone who isn't me tell me who all these people are? Aside from Jared Leto's joker. Why is there a dude sitting in a bathtub?
Ok so the Suicide Squad is basically a government black ops group that is comprised of villains from the dc universe. They are intentionally made up of villains so that if they die no would care cause they are bad guys or if they go rogue the government can deny any involvement. Amanda Waller (played by Viola Davis in the movie) is the person who starts the group and is a shady government type throughout the dc universe
Here is the cast and characters according to wikipedia.
- Will Smith as Deadshot: An expert marksman and assassin.[2][3]
- Jared Leto as The Joker: A psychopathic supervillain.[2][3]
- Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn: A crazed supervillain who is in love with the Joker.[2][3]
- Jai Courtney as Boomerang: An Australian assassin who utilizes deadly boomerangs.[2][3]
- Cara Delevingne as Enchantress: A powerful sorceress.[2]
- Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc: A supervillain who suffers from a skin condition that causes him to develop reptilian features.[3][4]
- Karen Fukuhara as Katana: An expert martial artist and swordswoman.[3][5]
- Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag: A military officer. Tom Hardy was previously cast in the role but was forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.[3][5]
- Jay Hernandez as El Diablo[5]
- Adam Beach as Slipknot[6]
- Viola Davis as Amanda Waller[7]
Hopefully this helps
Jai Courtney's only good movie was Jack Reacher where he played a meathead that Tom Cruise had to beat up. Perfect casting.
So surprisingly excited for the movie after watching this trailer. Leto and Robbie look like they nail Joker and Harley. I'm also super into Will Smith as Deadshot. Please don't disappoint
The appearances of the characters are so divorced from past examples that I could have watched this exact trailer out of context and never realized that it had anything to do with DC comic book villains, other than the brief glimpses of Batman. Personally, I don't consider that a good thing.
The only thing worse than this Suicide Squad trailer is the most recent Superman vs. Batman trailer. You're trying to get off on the right foot with your series of 55 DC superhero movies and these are the trailers you're putting out there first and foremost? I really hope I'm wrong about these movies...
I hope that it's really a fake wanna be joker and not supposed to be the real deal. If not, just don't use the joker at all please. Character design has no unique personality whatsoever, honestly looks like somebody obsessed with the joker rather than the joker himself.
God Harley looks ridiculously unlikable. I wish they'd un-Hot-Topic the design. Leto is a great actor and his Joker might be great but those tattoos are still dumb.
Wait and see for me. I have no positive thoughts on it to be honest.
I still don't like how the Joker looks, but maybe I'll get used to it eventually. I don't get how people are finding him scary because of tattoos and dyed hair. He looks like an indie game dev.
Also, isn't Katana usually a good guy?
@memonk: I think you're right. With how they've kept the Joker away from the rest of the cast I have to assume he'll play one of the antagonists in the film.
With the trailers going around right now my opinion is Deadpool looks awesome, Ash vs Evil Dead looks awesome and Suicide Squad looks....meh. I watched Assault on Arkham and loved it, yet I am not seeing any sort of personality from this film....if anything...it feels bland.
I might watch it and may be surprised but as of yet I am not sold on it.

It makes them more believable as a couple, I suppose. One of the things about Harley in the comics which gets me is how a trainee psychiatrist can wind up a gymnastic, unquestionable sidekick. She should be smarter than that.
@akyho: Yeah that Deadpool trailer makes me excited for that one especially for Colossus in the mix.

She's actually not. It's implied (in her very first appearance detailing her origin) that she slept with her professor to get a higher grade. She is actually completely unqualified for her job and has been coasting on personality, charm, and good looks (and the odd handjob I suppose). That's been part of her character from jump street. It's also how they explain the Joker getting his claws into her and twisting Harleen into what she is now. She was a trainee and was completely unprepared for him.
"We're some kind of...SUICIDE SQUAD?"
Stop doing this. Please.
BUT IT'S THE TITLE OF THE FILM AND THEY WORKED IT INTO THE SCRIPT. DON'T YOU GET IT? IT'S VERY CLEVER.
@memonk: Yeah it really does.
The amount of superhero films coming out in 2016 is getting kind of silly. I wonder if this is the cresting of the wave.
Also,
"Warner Bros. Pictures and our anti-piracy team have worked tirelessly over the last 48 hours to contain the Suicide Squad footage that was pirated from Hall H on Saturday. We have been unable to achieve that goal. Today we will release the same footage that has been illegally circulating on the web, in the form it was created and high quality with which it was intended to be enjoyed. We regret this decision as it was our intention to keep the footage as a unique experience for the Comic Con crowd, but we cannot continue to allow the film to be represented by the poor quality of the pirated footage stolen from our presentation."
I have a lot of trouble believing that. It all just feeds the hype. Thinking that the comic con footage wouldn't leak is utter stupidity.

Damn. That's kinda grim.

Where is this from? I remember her as first appearing in the cartoon, is this some shit they wrote later? If so that fucking sucks and ruins her character. Hopefully new 52 did away with that shit? Or is that some shit they added?
I'm surprised I liked this trailer as much as I did. I really enjoyed the tone of the trailer and hope the movie can back it up. It feels more serious, like it takes the existence of these villains as something real. I wish the story was more spelled out but I guess not knowing about the Joker and Batman's involvement (they also hint at Superman in there) is part of the intrigue.
For sure I'd rather see this opening weekend than Superman vs. Batman, at least I can't predict every twist and turn with this film that I could with the other.
I actually think it looks kinda neat. Besides the kinda hokey "We're some kind of... suicide squad?" I don't see anything that screams "this will be bad!". But then again, I think Batman V Superman looked pretty good as well. Both movies might suck of course, but I am sure they will be fun action flicks at the very least. But hey, I know. It's fashionable to be negative about stuff on the internet.
Deadpool though... I want to watch that shit right now.
I don't know if I can see someone else play the Joker after Heath Ledger played him, but I said the same thing about Heath when they first showed him off. I'll likely see this, but I'm not sure if it will be in theaters.

How does that ruin her character? She was a person who manipulated people into getting what she wanted until it caught up with her and she ended up being the one manipulated. It's a classic tragedy.

Of course, every DC character has about 15 different origin stories at this point but yes, at least one of them implies that she did fuck her way through school.
As for the movie, it looks fine. I'm not sure how you could not be feeling superhero fatigue at this point though. Enough is enough.

Yeah, just looked it up it was from the original Graphic Novel Mad Love written during the cartoon. And it's been rewritten in the new 52 where she is a model student like i figured it would.
The red capes are coming, the red capes are coming... oh wait, wrong movie.
I'm not feeling this or BvS honestly, I feel like they are both trying too hard to be "dark and edgy" and feel like 90's camp/attitude, but in the wrong ways, and I'm still not liking this Joker. Whereas people were skeptical of Heath Ledger, upon the first trailer with him--it removed all doubt--this one just raises more doubt. And the Joker purple luxury car is really dumb as well.
I wonder what the chances this might be a rated R.
It most likely will get a pg-13 rating cause you know, money. I think if this film doesn't get an R though it will probably agitate a few die hard Suicide Squad fans. I wouldn't mind seeing this as a returning trend, the R-rated superhero film. You had Blade I & II in the early 2000's and now you have Deadpool coming out in the future.
I will say that I think that Robbie is nailing as Harley Quinn. The casting decision I am most concerned about is Will Smith. He is too damn likable and charismatic to play a bad guy in my opinion. I am intrigued by this movie and i'll go see it based on that if nothing else.
I think Will Smith would play an excellent Deadshot. Deadshot is more of an anti-hero similar to The Punisher. Underneath he's probably not that bad of a guy, but what he does for a living as an assassins makes what he does bad.
