Difference between General Discussion and Off-Topic?

Is there really a difference? Both forums seem to be very non sequitur.

I think GD is to talk about every console or game and not off topic stuff.

But every so often, there are Off-topic threads in General Discussion.

General Discussion is Discussion about games and Giantbomb.

Off-topic is anything non-game related.

GD is about games Off topic is about everything non game or something like that........

Off-Topic is for talking about what if bananas and pigs combined into one super human.

Off-Topic is where the cool kids hang. (jo~ke) Guess GD is for games in general and OT is about flying shit.
