Ok, Ive read many comments on the new direction Dimmu Borgir is going and I mean many comments. I want to hear opinions from gamers this time. Some love it and some really, really hate it. Me on the other hand, I freakin love it, its a new direction Dimmu Borgir needed I believe. Don't get me wrong the old stuff is really good. It just shows you how change, done right can give you. Heres the video of their new video Gateways from their new album, Abrahadabra. So whatca guys think?

I've personally never listened to this band. That being said this song sounds pretty damn sweet to me although I don't listen to a lot of metal I want to listen to some more by them now. Any recommendations of where to start?
Metal videos are still as silly as ever. At least that hasn't changed.
I was never a fan of Dimmu Borgir to begin with. The symphonic, blackened, lady vocalist style seems to be gaining foothold. It's still not my style though. However that's not to say symphonic blackened metal is bad. The stringed instruments are great for texture.
Either start on Stormblast but they speak norwiegon in that album but still sounds incredible. If not that start with Enthrone Darkness Triumphant. then make your way to Death Cult Armageddon. Their new album is coming out this Oct. 12. So if you really like the video, your gonna love the new album.
" Nope, its still fucking horrible. Sorry. Nothing new about this, still focussed on angry goth kids. "Dimmu Borgir is (or at least was depending on your definition) black metal. Goth is an entirely different genre of music.
This song is okay, the ending is the best part I think. Personally I prefer more traditional black metal such as Gorgoroth and 1349.
I said it's for angry goth kids, didn't say it was gothic metal or whatever since genre's suck and what you call punk I might call rock.
My ex was a great fan of Dimmu Borgir, I heard all their old stuff and this really doesn't sound different to me.
eh, not feeling this. Cookie Monster vocals haven't caught my attention since Iowa. That's around the same time I fell out of the whole metal subculture as a whole.
So yeah, not really digging this.
A little to synth / melody for me as well. At least on the earlier stuff they tore it up a bit more, so it was a bit easier on the ears. As far as the videos go, I gotta give them props for some of the imagery in the cut scenes, away from the band playing make-belief demonic gods in their plastic costumes, red dye and corn syrup.
" Nope, its still fucking horrible. Sorry. Nothing new about this, still focussed on angry goth kids. "What a great opinion on music you have!
Aye, because my opinion on Dimmu equals my entire opinion on music.
Aye I was a bit harsh in my first post but I just dislike it, and as far as I could hear, I did not hear any new direction, just stating my opinion.
By which I meant its meaningless to label stuff.
Lots of people would tell you Limp Bizkit is rap, but lots would also tell you it's metal, rock even, or rapmetal or whatever its called.
It's pointless to label stuff as its your own experience, there's bands that you cannot even begin to label since they just do everything, and there's also bands where I have no clue what their genre actually means, just crazy words put together to make it interesting in my opinion :P
Dimmu Borgir is truly the Lady Gaga of black metal. Throw in enough random crap and "weird" theatrical antics into your music you can somehow confuse people into thinking it's "original and unique". However, once you look past the silly costumes and "scary" imagery it becomes painfully obvious that there is no substance whatsoever in their music. Would anyone even remember this song if they hadn't seen the supplementing video? I know I wouldn't.
It's not like it's even offensively bad or anything, I just find it incredibly shallow and dull. I do respect them for taking black metal into mainstream territories (even if their music has barely contained any elements of the genre whatsoever for the past decade), it's just the way they go about that disgusts me.

As for Dimmu Borgir, they really haven't been good since their first two or three albums. The rest is avoidable on all accounts.
" @TaliciaDragonsong: I asked if Rap could be metal and you just replied "Limp Bizkit" "She could have also replied " Body Count" and both would be true. What's your point?
What? Limp Bizkit isn't metal. They are crappy rap rock." @ahriman22 said:

Black Metal isn't for me either. I listen to a lot of different Thrash, Doom & Death Metal bands but never got into Black Metal. I cannot seem to get past the theatrics of Black Metal. To me it just comes across as a bunch of dudes putting Raccoon paint, spikes and shoulder pads on trying to look more evil and scarier than they are. Yes it's just the evolution of shock rockers like KISS, Cooper & Manson but it's all style and no substance. Would they make it on their music alone, had they not meticulously created their bad ass eviler than thou image? I think probably not.
Black Metal as a whole stands as a contradiction. The genre was started by bands that (supposedly) had Satanic beliefs, and encouraged individualism and going against the grain. Yet, if a band deviates from the "Black Metal Blueprint" or achieve any sort of mainstream success, they are shit upon and abandoned by those same fans that preached their gospel when they were unheard of...

" @MetalMoog: I was simply curious, but since you managed to avoid the question entirely, I am going to assume you are lying. "Oh fuck! My cover is blown! I don't listen to Metal at all, I was just lying about it on a Gaming Forum.
*Packs up Justin Beiber and Miley Cyrus albums into hello kitty backpack and runs off*
I avoided your question because it was fucking nonsensical dude.
@TaliciaDragonsong: Anthrax during the late 80s (early 90s?) is really the best time for any sort of metal and rap crossover. Bring The Noise is a hell of a track.
