Disappointment in the GiantBomb community.

 It can be really disheartening to see how much everyone hates each other for such superficial reasons.  
 
At the same time though, GB is my favorite forum just because you guys always surprise me with your nice comments or when you stand up for fellow duders. I feel that's a pretty rare quality among the internet.

People will say stupid things on the internet. You just have to try and ignore them. I still think Giant Bomb  has one of the better gaming communities. Go visit the gametrailers forums for a few minutes if you want to see how bad a gaming community can really be.

Also, mentioning any form of religion in a thread just seems to spontaneously cause arguments.

Honestly, I don't care.  I always roll my eyes at somebody considering an online forum a "community" because I don't think it qualifies as one.  It's the internet, not your neighborhood.  You don't eat dinner with these stupidly named people.  Online arguments through aliases are pointless, but to be disappointed in their existence is also pointless. 

I didn't post on the thread, but the original post was pretty pointless. If the Illuminati conspiracist guy had posted looking for gamers who shared his views, his beliefs would have been rightly ridiculed and no one would be defending him. Sorry but those conspiracy theories, whilst ridiculous, are no more irrational than the beliefs of organised religion. Most of us here live in places where Christianity is the dominant religion and the morals of Christians are imposed on us and our individual liberty all the time. So I find it understandable that many don't have time for it.

It's an issue because nobody cares. People are free to believe what you want but saying you are Christian on a video game forum doesn't make you better than everyone else, and it is irrelevant really. The other problem is that religious threads never end well.

The angel on my left shoulder says let this person say what he wants, and leave any criticisms of religion out of it. The devil on my right shoulder says, what the hell do you expect to happen if you start a thread about being a certain religion, are you that naive to think people may react negatively towards it. Especially when you say not to really dissect the reason you put it on there in the first place? I think I'm with the devil on this one(no pun intended).

This reminded me of the gay gamer thread a while back, when some were saying something along the lines of how the thread was pointless because it segregated itself by sexual orientation. To which my reply in retrospect would be yelling at the person for 10 hours straight for very good reason. Basically, Giantbomb is the combination of trolls, assholes, dickheads, and good people. Which is just like most other places, except we've got a fair amount of good people here.

Religion discussion should be banned on Giantbomb.

It's not just the internet that turned to crap it's most of the world. We come to the point where if you don't fall along a certain criteria of people then you are cast out. Meaning if you are religious, obey the government, don't have every single every single video game console, etc., then apparently you don't belong on this world. I believe it's gotten worse now as far as religion goes. Before it was just Catholics would just behead you if you were Christian, now it feels like everyone just ignores you every time you bring up the name Jesus Christ.  
 
I can bring up different parts of the bible to back up what I would have to say. Then again, the kids in these forums would just bash me in the end.

Look, whats the point in even saying what religion you believe in in a gaming forum? There's no real point to it and you should know by posting something of that matter that your risking being bombarded by user's around here, maybe it's not right for them to do so but come on what else do expect, it's like me saying "Yo I'm black, what games do you play?" what was the point in me even saying what color I was? None.

From reading the OP in that thread it seemed a bit pointless. They stated "  No Theological debates, this topic is focused on gaming and does not discuss christianity, islam or any other religion or the like." which makes the title  Christian Gamers On Giant Bomb redundant as we all share an interest in games and religion doesn't come into it. 

Been ignoring that thread since it first popped up. Checking in on it now, it seems to have taken an unexpected turn for the funny. Religion as a sub-sub-culture on the internet really can't exist. Even though I love this community and kind of expected better from the lot of you, it was only a matter of time. The OP was really putting himself out there, and probably should have known not to start the topic to begin with.

When religion and/or sexuality is mixed with games, I steer way clear.

Why are people going around and posting about there religion and what not on here or any site? No one cares or at least no one should.

I agree everyone is able to hold their own beliefs and they shouldn't be torn apart because of that.

You know, can we stop pretending like every forum is so immature that they can't handle political/religious debates?  I post on several. 
 
This is not an issue of it "being the internet".  It's an issue of this community having the posting standards and expectations of a Youtube video.

Honestly, I wonder if it's just naivety on the part of the topic starters or if it is a problem that can be solved in a reasonable way. I mean, you're posting on the internet, shouldn't you know better by now that you shouldn't bring up certain topics, regardless of setting? Sure you could say that; "if you don't have anything constructive to add, then don't post" but I must argue that in creating a topic that is inherently baiting those kind of comments, and then asking people to not post them is naive on the part of the topic starter. There are just some things you don't bring up in conversation unless you're willing to take responsibility for the way things will turn out. If you bring up religion, then you're asking for a shitstorm. It doesn't matter if it's on the internet or if it's in the "real world", people get just as indignant when these sort of "taboo" subjects come up.

That thread is very disturbing and the many liberal atheists of giantbomb surely don't disappoint whenever given the chance. To be fair though that topic was just asking to be flamed.

Yeah, it was pretty ill-conceived of him in the first place. I'm a Christian too, but there's a time and place to discuss it, and an internet forum about video games definitely isn't the place.

I really dont like when people mix religion / politics with games. Games should be about fun not things that divide us and I dont really think that if someone plays with someone else his religion / race / political views should matter to anyone, so when someone makes up a thread for christian gamers it really rubs me the wrong way.

I find it sad that people can get so worked up over random posts on the internet. The site has been taken over by too many trolls to have any kind of a discussion in any shape way or form. The second you see anyone bring up the big four (Race, Religion, Politics, Nationality) just save yourself the trouble of reading it and hit the back button because it always ends the same way. 
 
Arguing on the internet is like telling a glass of water to stop being water. Both activities end with nothing changing from when you started the conversation, and you just look stupid for trying to do it in the first place.
 
Also, where are the mods and why haven't they locked this thread yet? It's a thread made to argue about an argument in another thread. Seems kind of silly.
