I have never really thought about the quest system here on GB. It is nice when it tells me I completed something, but I never do them on purpose. Anyone else a non-quest GB user?
Do the Quests matter to you?
don't care about them at all. I mean, they're cool and everything if you're into that kind of thing I guess, but I just don't see the point really.
It was something to do while I was bored.... then a week later I discovered that picking my nose is way more interesting.
No, I have hated them from the get go. All they have done is take away time from the programmers who could have used it to fix the million or so bugs this site has, or add some of the features people have been asking for for a long time. All it got was a temporary boost in site clicks to show artificial numbers to ad companies and tons of spam on the forums. I guess it's something to make the sit stand out, but the whole thing is pointless as far as I'm concerned.
Nothing any of us can do anyway. They have said many a time that they don't give a shit about the sites community or what it thinks, and that they will always do what they want to do even if every post on the forums for an entire year was about how much we all hated the idea. Which is fine. They are the ones getting the money from the bored billionaire to do what they want with the site. So let em do what they want and we just gotta hope what we want and what they want is the same thing. If not there are tons of other places out there to get the same news from.
I got the ones at launch but I've since stopped. There's just no need for it. I think the quests just naturally happen over time - a lot of people here are in the high levels but they claim that they haven't really been proactively "playing". That's probably just a natural occurrence.
Not in the slightest. Every level of XP I've received has been by accident. If I want to write a blog about something, I write a blog and if I want to follow someone, I follow them for a reason. I don't go out of my way for any of the quests. In fact, I don't even know what 90% of them are. I'm not a fan of puzzle games and quests are like puzzles in my opinion.
Now I am off to kill 25 Silvermane wolves for XP. :-)
I like doing the quests when they are educational. For example, the World Cup set that had you looking for old console soccer games. I went to all sorts of pages that I never even know existed. That kind of history lesson is really enjoyable. Makes good use out of vast wiki we have here.
Quests like who can post first on a video? Those I can do without. But they all can't be winners.
I like them. I guess it's like achievements. When I finish a game, I see if I can complete some more.
Here when I finish some videos, I check the quest page.
If they didn't mean anything to me, then I wouldn't be updating my status every day for a month (which I am).
I will do the ones that require some actual searching, but I really only do those on Screened, since I lack the video game knowledge to complete the ones on giant bomb.
I just never really understood the appeal, but I think it's really good that people like them. I just wish the time was taken to add some other, perhaps higher priority features.
Yeah, I like the quests. They're good motivation for using aspects of this site that I ordinarily wouldn't find the time to use, like blogs or reviews. Plus, the scavenger hunt quests are entertaining for the brief amount of time they take to complete. As a person who loves hunting down secret or hidden items in games, that's gold for me.
Most of mine are just incidental. But I did do a last minute mad dash to get Lovin' Cup :o (I was 1491/1500)
Haha, OMG! You people are are so cool. Oh how I wish I was so nonchalant and carefree about what could possibly be the most important accomplishments of our lives. This is our future. This is our destiny.
Not really, I've encountered too many times that the obvious answer is not the right answer, which is annoying as fuck, and if you use the quest hints threads? Then it's too easy and pointless.
Although I was a member/ lurker of the site since the beginning, and it was the quests that made me actually sign in :D
