I leave mine on all the time, but its a Sony notebook, doesnt get warm or anything but the fan speeds up making it loud.
I dunno if this is true but turning your PC on is hard on the motherboard and hard drive, does anyone, know?
I leave mine on all the time becuase I download large files and it takes all night
Do u leave your PC on all the time?
Turning your computer on and off once or twice per day isn't really rough on the parts, that's a bit of a myth according to an article I read recently. But leaving it on when it's not doing anything does suck up power, and probably will decrease the life of your hdd unless it's turned off in a stand-by mode or something when not in use.
I turn mine off during the day, but leave it on at night as usually it encodes video or something along those lines.

"Megalon said:Ah, see I'm a chronic upgrader so I'm worried about that sort of thing. I've got more hard drives than I would care to admit, but I also store a ton of media on them so it's somewhat necessary."Turning your computer on and off once or twice per day isn't really rough on the parts, that's a bit of a myth according to an article I read recently. I leave it one for about a week or two, then I shut it off for a day and then turn back on and leave it on for a week or two again.
I leave my desktop on for torrent seeding and serving a Java IRC bot that I made (I wish I had the money to burn on a dedicated server so I could run bots/game servers/etc).
Guess I'm the only one that turn my PC on went i need it, the again i got this insane rig that can play Crysis, the down side it that it used about 200watt went it idle, so yea i do turn it off.
It's always on, turning it off tends to mess up my computer when it reboots again. I'm not sure why.
I usually just put mine on stand-by because I'm usually always browsing the internet in my spare time.
I turn it off when I'm not going to use it for a while. It's usually off while I sleep and am at school unless I have some big downloads.

"i turn mine off when going to bed, leave it on during the day. Unless im downloading something that takes a while, then i leave it on over night."Same Here
I leave my computer on all the time. I also have to keep my monitor turned on all the time, otherwise it's a total bitch to turn back on. My computer is shit.
i only have a laptop at the moment and that laptop i leave in standby for about 3 days when its not being used and i then shut it down over night. if im downloading torrents it usually is left on until the dl is done and then i use a nifty feature that bittorrent has where is shuts off when a dl is complete.
I normally leave mine on all day, and only leave it on at night if I'm downloading something huge, its kinda loud and its in my room so it can get annoying at night with it on.
I notice if I use Bonic even after I close it still 100% of the cpu but it runs way better
I turn mine off all the time. I mean if I am still around the house and I know I am going to come back and use the computer in the next hour or two, but if I am not going to be using it for like the next 6+ hours I will just turn it off or at the very least standby.
But I also do have a server running 24/7/365 in the basement of the house in the extra room sitting in the corner. It is nice because then anyone can grab and transfer files anywhere in the house, can print from anywhere in the house and browse the internet from any computer so yeah, I would say its worth it.
I turn mine off at night. I'm at school during the week so I don't even use it, and leaving it on just wastes electricity. It's also kinda loud with all of my fans so its harder to sleep.
