Sounds stupid... probably because it is. But to be honest, seeing a game I really like next to someone's post will make a good impression of them on me. It may be entirely subconscious but I may think more of a person if there's evidence that they're a fan of Aria of Sorrow or more obscure games like Snatcher. Unfortunately the reverse also applies and I have a nasty habit of judging people before I even listen to a word they have to say. Which isn't fair. At all. But it happens in real life just as much, whether you like it or not.
And please don't point out that its wrong to do so. I know that. The question is whether or not you admit you can do this sometimes.
Of course I'm sure everyone here is a fan of AC Current.
Do you ever judge people by their avatars?
The only time I'll ever judge by avatars is when someone's acting like a ridicules fanboy and they got a Zelda, Snake, or Masterchief avatar. That usually confirms someone's gamer personality. But judge would be the wrong word, it sometimes allows minor insight.
No one hate Jason!
That would be the same as judging people by their ethnicity, the way they talk, where they're from, and slapping on the associated stereotypes.
I wouldn't say judge per se but maybe more that it gives me a little insight of the type of person they are. I don't really take avatars into account for a majority of things though.
" That would be the same as judging people by their ethnicity, the way they talk, where they're from, and slapping on the associated stereotypes. "Exactly. So your answer is "yes". Lets face it, despite our best intentions, all of these things make construals.
Not really, though i do seem to have some weird neurotic malfunction in my brain when i see people with Anime avatars of small girls, i do seem to judge those people.
If their avatar consists mostly of clevage then that i'm pretty sure in the back of my head I think spotty teenage fanboy. For clevage avatar examples check gametrailers or N4G.
" No.For some reason no. Maybe its cause its a DOA character (right?). And here face isn't sad enough she doesn't look like she's just been violated by a 50 year old man, plus the eyes are way too small to count as what i think a Anime character looks like.
@pornstorestiffi: does that include me? :( "
So you pass, i think it what i'm saying.

Just kidding.
I think.
" Not really. People seemd to get pissed when I changed my avatars every few weeks, though. I do picture some people with their respective avatars. What are you trying to say?!? You have a problem against Robot Communists? It's okay, robots don't have emotions. "There we have the problem. Both Karmum and MattyFTM do not realise that robots, in fact, DO have feelings. This is why they do not understand the TRUE feelings of the communist robot.
Anyway, I do not understand how you judge somebody from their avatar.
" Nope, but I do link a persons username with their avatar. So I get thrown off if they change it. "
"Of course I'm sure everyone here is a fan of AC Current. "Alternating Current Current?
Nope, but I do get a little weirded out when I see someone with one of the staff as an avatar. We are all fans, but I think that's just weird. All the same, I don't judge them for it, I just wonder if they are stalking..
Edit: I'd also like to point out that by judging me from my avatar would get you nowhere, as I am not black, not fat, and my name is not Albert.
" Everyone loves Rich Gallup, which in turn means everyone loves me. It was my master plan all along! "It works!
Curse you!
On topic though, yeah, I judge people by their avatars.
" @MysteriousBob said:Yep. A.C is twice the current and three times the awesome. Whatever that means."Of course I'm sure everyone here is a fan of AC Current. "Alternating Current Current? "
Asking me, without doing it directly, if i'm a racist?
No, not at all. I don't judge people by their avatars or their pictures of themselves.
Rarely. I prefer to judge a person by the content of their hearts and not by the chosen image of their icon...unless they have either a Sephiroth or Master Cheif avatar. Both of those are so played out that only preteens still use them to identify themselves.
I don't think, there maybe something running in the back of my mind but nothing that would make me judge them differently.
" Only when it looks like anime... "@PenguinDust said:

I know you all tried really nicely to wrap it up and put a pretty little bow on it.
Doing that and then admitting right after that you do indeed judge people by their avatars, seems weird and confuses the hell out of me :P

I just find it weird and confusing, but I can live with it. I just don't get it.
"no, I don't judge people by their avatars.. oh wait yes I do" .
Why not just say "yes" to begin with..
I don't admit it to myself, because I'm aware that I'm doing it. But I mostly pay attention to quality. For example, I will completely ignore a post/thread by a user sporting the default avatar. It shows they don't care and are probably trolling.
For me, it's more about effort. A avatar represents your intentions, your personality. What you put into your posts, gives an idea of what you want to take out.
Like mine, for example. Shows that I am clearly, not shady. Not at all.
I don't judge by tha avatar I don't think... maybe if it is something really dumb. I do associate people with their avatar though... which is why I'm so afraid to change mine. I have had this since day one at Giant Bomb(only changing it recently for the Holiday version)... I'm not the most active user... but still.
