" Always! "Yes, in fact, I do sometimes. For example, the person I quoted has a bizarre/creepy avatar. I'm kind of scared of this person.
Do you ever judge people by their avatars?
It really depends. I don't think judge is the right word here, but I think an avatar is a small piece of one's personality. It can be anyway. I built my own avatar around games and franchises I enjoy, there it is representative of me. Maybe avatars mean different things to everyone therefore it could be confusing. But sometimes I think it says something about a person.
No, but I might get some info from it, like they like certain band/music genre or something
As for me, mine says I find dumb shit funny
Not a huge fan of people choosing status symbols like their car to represent themselves, but I'm also a fan of people taking the few minutes of effort it takes to make something original, so in the case of your avatar, the two cancel each other out." #1 What do you think of when you see mine? It's my car so I only see affection but I don't know what I would see if I was an outsider.
#2 I am thinking of changing it from this.![]()
To either this![]()
Or this cheers to ajayraz."
I think I just don't like status symbols in general... which is kind of hypocritical, since I drive a Range Rover, but I walk more than I drive, so I feel that cancels the other out as well...
Yes. It's a habit.
If you have a girl avatar and I haven't bothered to check your profile I probably think of you as a chick.
" Yes. It's a habit. If you have a girl avatar and I haven't bothered to check your profile I probably think of you as a chick. "I do that all the time. Which is why I have the most manly of characters as mine.
" This is the face I make when I eat cheeseburgers...motherfucker. "That cheesebuger... thats from that new Hawaiian burger joint, right? Big Chauna Buger?
OK, I'll stop there, this could go on forever.
" That would be the same as judging people by their ethnicity, the way they talk, where they're from, and slapping on the associated stereotypes. "I wouldn't say that exactly. It's more similar to judging someone based on what their shirt says. Ethnicity isn't chosen, but avatars and clothing (usually) are chosen by the person. It's like when you see a guy wearing a baseball hat for your favorite team, except in this case it's someone posting with a picture from something next to their comment.
By rational extension, this study if probably suggesting that we SHOULD judge people by their avatars :D

i'd be very interested in knowing what people think of my avatar...
i change mine up a bit from time to time.
" No.Even if it doesn't, I still judge you harshly because of it. :P (Psst, pornstorestiffi, Ajay's last user icon was totally a young anime girl, from the series K-on! no less)
@pornstorestiffi: does that include me? :( "
Nah, I can't say I've ever judged someone based on their user icon. Though I've received an odd comment or two in regards to my icon and Vocaloid.
If people want to assume I'm a big Vocaloid fan, they're welcome to, but to be honest I don't really care much for it. The voice technology used in the Vocaloid program is still stranded in the uncanny valley and while a song like " Last Night, Good Night" sounds beautiful, the "vocals" are a bit unnerving at times (especially during the chorus when they hit an insanely high pitch). I do, however, like a particular image a fan drew of Miku Hatsune enough to make part of it my user icon :D
On YouTube, yes, people on YouTube tend to be very one dimensional/retarded/assholes/fanboys.
On GiantBomb? No, and by the way, I have this JJ Talbian icon because I want to make sure people remember Darkstalkers, it's not like Darkstalkers is my favorite game, however.
I do to a certain degree. If I see a male avatar, my brain subconsciously goes "Oh, that's a dude." Same with a female avatar, "Oh, that's a chick."
Though if it's an inanimate object, it sticks out a little more. "Oh, that poster's a ship. Wait, what?" :P
This avatar looks better with a Christmas Hat than my other knight-dude did.
