Do you have time to read and play video games?

Just curious. I'm about 10 hours into the Witcher 3 (after reading all the books) and I'm loving it. Thing is after reading the Witcher books I'm getting the urge to start another series.

For the fantasy nerds, I'm thinking of starting either the Kingkiller Chronicles (3 books) or the Malazan Book of the Fallen (10 books!). But man, that's going to take a ton of time, along with the Witcher 3 which also takes a ton of time. Just curious how ya'll handle that type of thing.

I don't have time to read or play video games.

But really tho, I couldn't guess the last time I read a book.

I play video games very often and read at least a few pages of a book before bed every night.

I think video games are the main reason I stopped reading, so it's kind of a "yes I could, but no I don't" answer

Used to read all of the time, came to an abrupt halt, and am now getting back into it.
Know what used to help me read honestly, as odd as it may be? Loading times. When I would play PC games back in the day I would always have a book by my side, and every single time my game would need to load I would read a few pages. Now load times are so fast, if not damn near completely void in some games. Plus back then I had no other option but to read. I couldn't listen to a podcast while I played a game, there was no podcasts back then! Maybe if my parents and sister were gone I could crank the t.v. and hear it from the PC room, that's about it. I had the time and no distractions.
Reading a book is such a solitary means of entertainment to me now too, I never just do one thing, not usually, if I'm playing a game, a podcast or the t.v. is on in the background. At most I can listen to music when I read, but that's it. But I'm getting better, try to read an hour a day.

@zolroyce: I know exactly what you mean about not being able to just do one thing. I'm basically always listening to podcasts, and then while playing video games it's either more podcasts or Netflix in the background. Everyone I know thinks I'm crazy. Haha, glad to know I'm not the only one.

I think so, I just tend to do neither. If I weren't spending most of my time watching other people play video games, it would probably be reading on the weekdays and my primary video game time on weekends. I could play on weekdays, but man I'm tired after work. And reading is a bit less involved (well, it's involved in different ways) than gaming.

Edit: After a bit more thought, my thing is that I tend to focus on one thing. So if I'm reading a book, and I'm like into it, then I'll probably spend my free time reading that book. If I get into a game, I'm probably gonna spend most of my time playing that game. If I'm not into anything, I default to watching videos. So it's not that I don't have time for both, I just tend to focus.

Audio books are your friend. I've got a 50-minute commute each way, plus some of the time while at work. Going for walks around the neighborhood for some exercise is another great time. Actually, reading regular books is hard. Maybe go to bed an hour or 90 minutes early and read till you pass out. A couple of hours on weekend mornings is usually pleasant.

If you buy the audio book or kindle version the other version is usually discounted. Amazon has it where both versions will sync with each other.

@figurehead00: My reading habits are... I don't know obsessive? If a book catches my interest I will voraciously read it in a couple of days, literally devoting all of my free time to get it done. I read the Kingkiller Chronicles (the two main books) in a span of five days. I guess the way I handle it is that some weeks I simply read and other weeks I play. I like to focus on whatever is on the docket and not divide my time between reading and playing any given day. For example if the next big entertainment thing I have my eye on releases, that is where my focus will be until it is completed and then its on to whatever's next. Blood and Wine took two weeks of my time to finish up and I did very little reading in that time and now I have to catch up.
