Yes. For no reason other than it's the system in my country.
Do you think america should switch to the metric system?
In a way yes, but in another way @lukeissxc: is right, it would probably cause more problems than it is worth at this point. It's too hardwired into so much of our society. All the people out of school would need to learn an entire system, and even the people in school, would need to re-learn everything. It would mess up the current curriculum too. =| It would be a difficult process.

MAKE UP YOUR MIND AMERICA.
I'm in a country that already uses metric. I think they should change and since America likes to be different I don't see it changing anytime soon.
Green - Countries using metric
Black - Using Imperial

Definitely. The imperial system is extremely dated.
Sombody already touched on this once, but I'll go further:
1cm cubed of water = 1mililitre and weighs 1 gram. how could it be any simpler?
The metric system is a cleaner system. Base 10 is more intuitive, BUT (like everybody has said) it's going to create confusion. This is primarily because people have developed a natural "feel" for the native measurement. Somebody from the US can make a good gut estimate of 5 feet, while somebody from, say New Zealand, has a good feel for how far 5 meters is. It's like reteaching instinct, or something like that.
Ultimately, yes, I do think it would be better in the long run if we could all just agree on a standard. In order for a change of this magnitude to happen, it probably needs to be passed as law, and US citizens will experience a period of confusion for God-knows-how-long. Plus, I imagine that there's going to be resistance at multiple points in the process (passing of law, or just outright grassroots refusal to convert).
My main point being: I think it's going to be very messy, even though I really think it is a good idea.
Next your going to tell us to start liking Soccer (European Football)!!!!! We aren't European we are American's we do things differently!!!! ;)

0 to 100 in both Celsius and Fahrenheit represent freezing to boiling. It's just that Celsius is for fresh water and Fahrenheit is for salt water. So 0 degrees is the still freezing temp in Fahreheit for saltwater and 100 degrees is boiling. You'd be surprised how few people knew this.
But you're right... who the fuck drinks or cooks with saltwater?

I lurve me some saltwater!
The Imperial system makes no sense to me whatsoever. Especially when it comes to weights. All these pounds and stones =/ Stones can vary wildly in weight, I don't see how anyone thought this was a coherent milestone against which to measure!
@Laketown: You've just invented some arbitrary scale of temperature there.

I vote for da F.
We have to go metric on everything else, though. The more we stay on our system, the more it will cost to change it. It's a ticking time bomb.

" @Cube said:No those are NOT normal temperatures. Cities around the world normally dip way below 0 C. My city gets -30 C Weather normally in winter. Given the lack of precision in weather forecasting the extra precision in the scale would be pointless." @Cube said:

Celsius makes more sense if you start at 0 as a middle point. -30 is very cold, +30 is very hot.
Fahrenheit makes less sense because even Fahrenheit goes into negative temps. So if 32 is Freezing, what is -10? If you use freezing as a middle point it just makes sense.
But I'm sure America is just having the grandest party with Burma and Liberia, the only other countries who haven't adapted to the times.
Yes I think we should. I always feel stupid when someone says a measurement in the metric system and I have to think forever to relate it to inches or whatever.
