Do you think the act of tipping is strange?

I once received no service at all in this restaurant, no water/tea (which was usually given), I even needed to ask for the menu. I didn't felt like tipping, but I did anyways, save to say i never went there since. Jerks.

It's polite. They have bad pay. Show some sympathy.

Unnhhh you assholes who are saying all that hourly wage bullshit need to realize that most waiters/waitresses fall under a weird rule where the the employer only pays them maybe $2.50 and hour.  They rely on tips to like GET PAID.   I  tip at least 20% always.    Seriously, cheap fucks sicken me.  

Well here in Australia you don't have to tip... But if a waiter/waitress is particularly good, I'd gladly give them a bit extra for the good service.

 i am saddened by the low amount of Reservoir Dogs references in this thread and to answer the question ,i do make an effort to tip normally two dollars or so. Depending on how much is spent in the restaurant.
