God no. That's just weird.
Kinda like those people who use their avatar as their Facebook picture.
Do you use an alias on Facebook
" Facebook is where my real friends and family are. I don't need a screen name. This right here is the Internet, a raw, untamed land where we need secret identities. "Sooo true. I make sure to keep my "social site identity" and my "gaming site identity" completely seperate. Nothing on my Myspace/Facebook account will connect you to my Giantbomb/Gametrailers account.
" @Gamer_152 said:Facebook makes it very easy to hide that information though and I do keep all my information hidden from anyone but my friends." I use my real name, picture and information on Facebook, the way I see it Facebook is a way of sharing that information and it would be defeating the purpose to hide it. "yes... but you then put more of your information on the internet, it knows your likes, dislikes, friends, family, location, job, what u look like and even what pr0n u watch "
People that use aliases on FB are either nerds or nerd wannabes and it's really stupid if you ask me.
" Alias and weird icons in your name are what people on Myspace do, not Facebook. "Oh they most certainly do it on Facebook as well, i know a few in some of the pages, with betty boop icons and what have you, there's many of them, and when Myspace died ALL of the trolls shifted to Facebook.
Not to mention, there is that whole thing what the radgies are doing round here. For example calling themselves "Laura Baby Baby" or "Jamie Mc Solidasfuck Rover"
Because they are hardcore. Then theres the whole first person to comment on this status has to put my first name as their middle name and vice versa. What Im waiting to see is the Myspace Fakes transfer over to facebook. Im not even sure if those "scene" girls are even a real person at all. Just figments of the imagination.
And I agree with everyone else, its just weird.
Sort of. My Facebook last name isn't my actual last name.
That being said, I only have 50 friends. I know all of them in real life and they know what my actual family name is. It's an added great way of preventing assholes from adding me. I could care less about getting invites from people who where in my grade 8 math class.
I feel your pain :P Im bored of the ridiculous names now. I just laugh at them over anything. I dont understand how they think its good. But whatever makes them happy and stops them bricking windows is fine by me :P
Im wondering now does the dude who made this use an alias? Or is he one of those cool kids with the dodgy names :P
I only use Dragonsong instead of my real surname, but besides that it's all me on there.
I didn't join it to share information and stuff, did it to keep in contact with peeps who don't use MSN or something similiar.
The only people who aliases make sense for would be celebrities, or at least somewhat famous people, who don't want to get 10,000 notifications and friend requests from random people they don't know and never will.
Ive only ever seen Justin Bieber lyrics :/ Its worse when they bash character map and put loads of brilliant little signs on their names. They dont realise it comes up as loads of litle [] shapes on their name on most pages. Its worse, my friends aunt even does it D: she is around 40...
Since this thread has gone down a one way track, I might as well throw something into the mix.
I use an alias on facebook. I am a very private person. I have about a dozen friends, but I am private by nature. I am respectfully introverted around strangers, and get very uncomfortable when people come out of the woodwork from my past, like old high school or college classmates. I only got a facebook profile a few months ago, because my friends were all posting pictures of me anyway. So I joined up, friended my friends, and locked down as much as I could in the privacy settings. My alias is simply my real first name, and some filler text around it that I periodically change.
I also use an avatar that I change every month or so. It's almost always an inside joke reference between my friends. My friends know what I look like. I see them all the time. If i can cram in something more clever than a picture of my face, I'll take that opportunity. I'm not afraid to show my face. Hell, I do right here on Giant Bomb. I'm not on facebook to make friends, only to appease the ones I have.
