Ever since I downloaded Firmware 3.74 my PS3 doesnt recognise the CR disc! When I put it in, it powers up and tries to read about 4 times, then just sits there, no error messages or anything! No acknowledgment theres anything in the drive on the XMB either.

Everything else works totally fine like Uncharted and other blu rays, but the disc for CR is fine! I have the 40gb PS3 from agggggges ago, and a copy of CR I bought (it was not the free one). I've tried resetting the file service thing where you hold the power button for the double beep and then hit option 3, but it didnt do anything!!

Any ideas chaps?? Cheers!!

That seems a bit odd.. Just checked my copy and it worked fine. Though it was on a slim and it was the one I got for free with my EU launch PS3.

could be something wrong with your drive. started having this problem recently with any dual layer disc (uncharted 3, gow3, killzone 3). for now just lifting the front end of my ps3 right after putting the disc results in the ps3 reading the disc. though lately that's been taking a few tries.

the problem is likely with the bluray drive. lens might be weakening or dirty or some plastic mechanism for the lens is stuck.

That's odd if everything else is working. Is the disc dirty or something?

Try it on another blu-ray player. ALOT of the first gen blu-ray and hd-dvd discs were defective. My 300 disc wouldn't play the ending, fast and furious: quantum of solace: dog day afternoon would only play certain parts. The discs are perfect, but won't play in any of my players. Went out and bought a second copy, and they worked fine. Even uncharted 2 from gamefly, completely clean and clear disc, just stalled on a loading screen about 1/3rd the way in.

See, all of those movies worked fine for the longest time. Just as time went on, they stopped working bit by bit. *Oh, and out of my 400 dvds? NONE of them are defective, or ever have been. As long as you took care of them, they'd always work. I find it awfully peculiar that these hd discs have so many defects*

Try renting/borrowing another copy of Bond and see if that one plays, at least you'll know if its your copy of the movie or not. You could get a lens cleaning kit too and see if that helps. I have a Maxell one that looks like a DVD but has little brushes on it; its nice because I don't have to open up players and use a q-tip.
