Earthquake in Montreal?
I'm in Ottawa, and I JUST experienced this. It's funny cause Im sitting here trying to find someone to talk to about this, and then I saw this post.
Edit: Pretty crazy, never felt anything like that. Probably pretty tame compared to people in the states who deal with them more than us, but stuff was actually falling over. Crazy.
ya, i'm not saying that it was huge but considering ive never felt one like that. Alot of times before it was small and i dismissed off as my imagination. This time it was more than a second and things shook.
Yeah same. I only ever experienced 1 other (that I'm aware of anyway) and I was half asleep at the time, so I thought it was a dream, but was later told it was not." ya, i'm not saying that it was huge but considering ive never felt one like that. Alot of times before it was small and i dismissed off as my imagination. This time it was more than a second and things shook. "
It was nothing like this though. My dog was FREAKING out
That shows nothing recent, but I don't know how quick it updates.
Can't be, I'm in Toronto and I didn't notice anything. Are you in the east end?" im in Toronto and i felt it! "
Yup its all over the news, from Southern Ontario to Montreal. They say it was a quake 5.5 on the Richter scale.
Here is the USGS report

sadly i lol'd." Man it sure is Chile in Canada, eh? "
Also here some confirmation.

still cant believe it.
It must have happened when a plane was flying over, my house is directly underneath the approach path of two runways at Pearson Intl. Airport. Either way, I still didn't feel anything." @FrankCanada97 said:
" @korkesh said:I'm in Ottawa, felt it. My brother's in Toronto (West end) and he felt it. I've heard people from NY and Ohio got some as well. "Can't be, I'm in Toronto and I didn't notice anything. Are you in the east end? "" im in Toronto and i felt it! "
Is it possible to hear an earthquake? I thought I heard something weird around that time frame the earthquake occurred.
It's over the local and national news now. CBC and CTV are reporting it as well as the local news outlets.
Oh, and I certainly heard this earthquake. Can't be sure if I'm hearing the actual earth or the junk we've build jangling around above it. But it sounded a lot like I imagined. A lot of bass-ey rumble.
Cross-posted from the newer thread. You guys are too crazy fast.
According to the USGS maps at least 10 small quakes have happened in this region so far this year, and hundreds since 1990. That site is pretty interesting if you're a nerd.
From the site - "People in the large Western Quebec seismic zone have felt small earthquakes and suffered damage from larger ones for three centuries. The two largest damaging earthquakes occurred in 1935 (magnitude 6.1) at the northwestern end of the seismic zone, and in 1732 (magnitude 6.2) 450 km (280 mi) away at the southeastern end of the zone where it caused significant damage in Montreal. Earthquakes cause damage in the zone about once a decade. Smaller earthquakes are felt three or four times a year. "
The stupid media are shitting bricks about this. The Globe and Mail even has a fucking liveblog. What the hell?

" Can somebody please tell me when the last earthquake in Canada was? Serious question. "It was earlier this year. See my link to the USGS above for floods of info.

Fair enough, they just seem to be overreacting. The I overreacted to their overreaction. Damn it I am as bad as them.
" I'm in Montreal and I didn't hear or feel a thing. "Me too. But I had my headphones on and all my attention was focused on Chrono Trigger so maybe that's why. My dad who was in the same room as me felt it, though, and actually told me we had an earthquake. Weird.
Several of my friends on Twitter from back east (Ottawa and Toronto) felt it. I've felt a couple aftershocks/minor quake when I used to live there.
Weird. What time of day did this happen? The power went out here in New Brunswick around 8:00 am/9:00am. Maybe it had something to do with that? I was asleep most of the day so if it did effect this far east I never felt it.
" @Pinworm45 said:while that's true, we don't, but did you forget about that tornado a while ago already? tore up a buncha houses. apparently a tornado's on it's way tonight (ontario), but that's probably a steaming pile of bs." @Insectecutor said:plus we don't get natural disasters in this neck of woods. I live around southwest Michigan. I didn't feel anything, but then again I might just be too far away.

Wait, you're Canadian?
I used to sleep through earthquakes when I lived in California. I did visit again last year and one happend, it was weird being in on after so long. Hasn't happened lower here on the East coast though. I guess you guys up North just aren't lucky.
