Fantasy and Sci-fi Book Recommendations

I'm a big fan of Fantasy and Sci-Fi books.

I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on good books in these genres.

Song of Ice & Fire by George R. R. Martin.

A Game of Thrones is the first book.

Foundation by Isaac Asimov.

Neuromancer by William Gibson.

Space Odyssey 2001 is a classic but maybe a little aged today.

The Lies of Locke Lamora

The Belgariad series by David Eddings.

STARSHIP TROOPERS - Robert A. Heinlein (must read before you die)
Ringworld - Larry Niven
Revelation Space - Alastair Reynolds (highly recommended)

"Space Odyssey 2001 is a classic but maybe a little aged today."

The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. It's sci-fi, a parody of many scientific and philosophical ideas in our world, and huge; there are over thirty books in the series.

Enders Game by Orson Scott Card is one of my favorite sci-fi books.  I would also recommend the Halo novels, as those generally have some pretty good action.
