Not sure if this has been done recently but I just wanted to know what have been your favorite albums so far this year? For me I have discovered some excellent music (and some old music). I thought I might share my favorite so far...

Beach House - Bloom

In one word, beautiful. Writing my dissertation for the last 5 months has been very stressful and if it wasn't for this album I may have not survived. From start to finish it is amazing. I you are looking for some relaxing music look not further.

Friendly Fires - Pala

Sort of a cheat. This album came out in 2011 however I didn't start listening to this band until this year after a friend took me to one of their gigs. This album is a pure summer album. It makes me happy every time I listen.

alt-J - An Awesome Wave

Quite simply one of the best albums I have heard in quite some time. Amazing from start to finish. I wont say anything else other that listen because it truly is so good.

2012 has been good for music so far for me. Other mentions go to Azealia Banks and Passion Pit who haven't released albums so far this year but from what I'v heard they should be good.

I'm always looking for new music so please tell me what albums to listen to :)

There's been a lot of these recently. Beach House's album has, interestingly enough, been my most disappointing album of 2012.

I am really enjoying Fiona Apple's new album, and also Beach House. Love that you put Myth up; that song is seriously awesome. I have to say though a lot of the other songs on it are kind of bad, or at least they seem so to me so far. I may have to give them a few more listens.

People should buy the new Smashing Pumpkins album just to encourage Billy Corgan to do more interviews.

  • Gojira - L'enfant Sauvage
  • Meshuggah - Koloss
  • Spineshank - Anger Denial Acceptance
  • Dying Fetus - Reign Supreme
  • Goatwhore - Blood for the Master
  • Every Time I Die - Ex Lives
  • Prong - Carved Into Stone
  • Tesseract - Perspective EP (just because it was an interesting experiment with a vocalist that I wasn't totally psyched about being in that band)
  • Periphery - II: This Time It's Personal

That's about all I've really jammed this year besides stuff from last year.

I haven't got the chance to check out Beach House's new album, but what I've liked what I heard so far. I'm partial to Lazuli even if it's channeling Final Fantasy in the intro.

Beach House - Bloom is so amazing and almost every song blew me away (my favorites are Other People and The Hours). It's definitely my favorite thing I listened to this year.

Also, Metric - Synthetica was a pretty great album.

I don't pay much attention to new albums and usually discover them when I'm browsing randomly on iTunes and go "Oh, hey, a new album from ***** is out!" The only ones that come to mind are the Tenacious D album (which was quite good, if a little short) and the Regina Spektor album.

Glad you said it, I was starting to feel a little obsessive mentioning Fiona Apple in every music thread, haha. ... Dammit, I just did it again.

As for other albums, Tenacious D and Marilyn Manson both nailed it this year. Especially Manson, who's recent output has been... contentious, let's say.

Love it.

Fiona Apple's new album is my favorite of the year by a fairly sizable margin, way better than I was expecting. Before that came around, Killer Mike's R.A.P. Music was at the top of my list.

Kill For Love by the Chromatics is a great album that I've looped a lot at work recently.

Electronic Dream, by Araabmuzik, is a pretty solid trance album.

Wow, I'm not sure if these are joke posts or not but you guys have some really terrible taste in music.

Dead can dance new album is good ( http://www.deadcandance.com/presaleassets/anastasisplayer.html )
Assemblage 23 "Bruise" is amazing
Paul Van Dyk - Evolution is very good also
grendel - timewave zero
 portamento - the portal
future perfect - escape
diary of dreams - dream collector II

just a few off of the top of my head. Not sure what this shoe gaze indie music you all are listening to is but listen to some real music. Industrial / trance / psytrance - love life.

My favorite album probably so far is paul van dyk evolution because it is fucking paul van dyk and it is amazing. Heart stops beating.

Teen Daze - All of us, together

Beach House - Bloom

Gojira - L'enfant sauvage

I guess those are the ones that have stood out so far, granted I haven't listened to a lot of 2012 music yet.

fun.'s "Some Nights" is the only album I've enjoyed so far this year. I'd probably give it four stars. It has some major highlights, but there are a couple unfortunately questionable songs on there. But I'll probably check out many of the suggestions here.

I would love to see her live. I'm a new fan, so I'm just now digging through her live videos on Youtube, and she's one hell of a performer. Her anger when performing "Limp" is actually kind of scary. She and Alanis Morrisette are two singers I would never want to cross, haha.

Put another down for Beach House's Bloom. It's the only album I've loved all the way through this year. While I enjoyed Celebration Rock, There's No Leaving Now, Timberwolf, Royal Headache, and Fiona Apple's album with the ridiculously long title this year, they all stumbled a bit in certain ways for me. Really looking forward to the new Dirty Projectors and Grizzly Bear albums coming out next month, though.

The energy she brings to a live show completely changes things. You kind of begin to feel as though she's literally experiencing the things she's singing about, live and immediately on stage.

And isn't Tool supposed to release a new album this year? That is undoubtedly going to be one of the highlights.
