That album is glorious. I don't even like that sort of music for the most part, but CC made me a fan in no time flat.

1)MBDTF by Kanye West - Some of the best production Iv ever heard on a hip hop album mixed with Kanye at his lyrical peak = One of the best albums in years

2) The Archandroid by Janelle Monae  -  one of the best debut albums in years , featuring rich production,  a variety of genres, and Janelle's amazing personality and voice

 3) Sir Luscious Left foot by Big Boi  - Was my favourite hip hop album of the year before MBDTF. Funky and fresh indeed

4)  Before today by Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti  -  Loved the old school funk rock sound of this album

5)  The Suburbs by Arcade Fire - Probably their weakest album, but still great

He goes under Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, the album is called Before Today. You should check out his, older, weirder, recorded on 4-track shit.

 And @rudeboy217:
had no idea Defiance, Ohio came out with a new album. i've really only heard The Fear, The Fear, The Fear, but I really dug it. Have you checked out Roar's EP I Can't Handle Change? It was released on Quote Unquote later last year. It would probably rank up in my best releases of the year. Also that BTMI! EP was damn good, and according to Jeff Rosenstock's twitter, the new album's gonna be their longest.
Here's some of my favorite releases of last year:
Plastic Beach - Gorillaz
Cosmogramma - Flying Lotus
Baths - Cerulean
Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest
Roar - I Can't Handle Change
LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening
Sufjan Stevens - The Age of Adz
Chemical Brothers - Further
Whatever OFWGKTA shit came out has been good for the most part
among a lot of others that were mentioned.

Last year was such a great one for music. Off the top of my head, I was constantly listening to Transference- Spoon Plastic Beach- Gorillaz, This is Happening- LCD Soundsystem, Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Video Game Soundtrack- Anamanaguchi, IRM-Charlotte Gainsbourg, Sir Luscious Left Foot- Big Boi, Apollo Kids- Ghostface Killah, Contra- Vampire Weekend. (Still haven't listened to The Suburbs and I just barely got into Mumford & Sons and Florence & The Machines albums...sorry I can't really give good opinions on those.)

@BjornTheUnicorn:  I love Defiance, Ohio. Their new album is so good. I still need to listen to Roar's EP! I will download it right now actually. All I've been listening to are the Shinobu, Hard Girls and Pteradon releases, which I highly recommend. Man, I love Quote Unquote. Also I'm super stoked for the BTMI album as well as the Kudrow/Hard Girls split.

10. This is Happening - LCD Soundsystem
9. The Lady Killer - Cee Lo Green
8. All Day - Girl Talk
7. Immersion - Pendulum
6. Brothers - The Black Keys
5. The Orchard - Ra Ra Riot

Forgot a few others. Broken Bells was a solid album & makes me excited for the inevitable follow-up, Drake's Thank Me Later is one of the best debut rap albums in a long while and Cee-Lo's never been better than he is in The Lady Killer.

Infinite Arms- Band of Horses

To be honest, there were probably a lot of albums that came out last year that were better than this. But this is the one album I never stopped listening to last year. I can't put my finger on it, but something about it keeps me coming back for more. And they're really good live too. Here's a few more I really liked last year.

Sidewalks- Matt & Kim
Together- The New Pornographers
Congratulations- MGMT
High Violet- The National
The Suburbs- Arcade Fire
Sigh No More- Mumford & Sons

@the_OFFICIAL_jAPanese_teaBAG: I don't label myself anything. I just like music that you have never heard of. Big deal. Most of the bands I posted are either punk, emo, or folk. Just sayin.
and  @velucyraptor: I'm glad someone else here likes the same music as me. Haha. That's pretty awesome.

My winner for the last year. Not usually my favourite music, but it is just so well made.

A few honorary mentions:
"09-17 2007" (EP) by Danger
Crystal Castles by Crystal Castles, although I liked the first one way better.
How I Got Over by The Roots
Boombox by Beatsteaks
and even if it is from 2009, I didn't know it back then:
Black List - Kap Bambino, probably my most listened-to album this year.
Kanyes and Arcade Fires albums got alot of praise, they are good, too.

And I also don't know any of the bands the topic creator mentioned. But that's music topics are, often they end in a "hey look, what I know and you don't" kinda thing.

I saw CC live in 2009, was pretty crazy, especially in front row :D
You guys should give Kap Bambino a try. They have some similarities and I love them both.

I'm usually straighter than this, but the best albums I heard last year were the debut, titular Fleet Foxes album and debut Mumford & Sons album, Sigh No More. Below, a sample from each:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VExmgC0z9U0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KkUeRPjc-Y
Also, this EP came out in 2009, but it's free and awesome. Like a chiptunes thing with some real instruments, vocals and great lyrics.
http://www.iimusic.net/catalog/2009/10/the-j-arthur-keenes-band-pamplemousse

And that was a lie, i'm not straighter than that. I'm usually about 4% gay.

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by a wide, wide margin. As a big rock person, I'm having trouble coming up with an album as good as West's since 1979, perhaps barring AC/DC's Back in Black.

However, The Black Keys' Brothers, deadmau5's 4x4=12 and Leon Russell/Elton John's The Union were also excellent.

EDIT: Not to mention the soundtracks of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, The Social Network, Deadly Premonition, Super Meat Boy, and Pac-Man CEDX.
