This questions must've been asked before, since it's the name of the whole godamned network, but I couldn't be bothered to dig so deep in the forums...

...what's your favourite whiskey (including bourbon and Jack D etc.)? Just trying to pick up some good tips.

Amongst the ones I've tested I give it to The Belvanie (12 year). I would recomend this even if you think you hate whiskey. So smooth and sweet you'll feel spoiled drinking it. I've tested a few more expensive sorts and Belvanie still rule them all :)
And for the blended, Islay Mist... Based on Laphroaig so it's a bit smokey, but it's perfectly balanced (for a blended).

By the way. I don't mind Jack D. I'm a game nerd and not a whiskey nerd so I enjoy whatever no matter what this post might seem like (except Statesman... that tastes like mildy scented gasoline).

I can't stand Whiskeys.  It wasn't ever quite so bad until I tried Wild Turkey.  Ever since then I don't even like the smell of whiskeys.  I'll stick with my Rums and Tequilas.

But, my husband likes whiskey (Jack D usually), so maybe I'll have to pick up some Belvanie sometime to try out.

I don't really like whiskey, like at all. I occasionally have Jack & Coke at bars though, so I guess Jack Daniels?

Laphroaig is definitely my favorite. I love the smokiness of it. I'll need to try that Islay Mist you mentioned.

*finding out I've misspelled Balvenie*

It's kind of a struggle to find out what you you like or dislike about whiskey. Usually it's the taste of alcohol or smoke/ash/wood that put you off. Balvenie takes away all of that... in my opinion. Although I likes the smokey stuff :)

Crown Royal is great. As for Scotch I like Ballantine's finest. It's not the best but it's much better then anything else you can get for the same price.

@HarlequinRiot:  Laphroaig is the most extreme I've ever tasted in terms of smokiness, and it was really good. But I've yet to taste Bowmore wich is, supposedly, to be amongst the most smokey of of all smoke.

@Fishstick: Only tried Lagavulin once a long time ago at a friends place. I remember it to be a strange taste, but I think I need to try it again soon. Maybe I go straight for the 16 year :)

None, I hate drinking and have no clue why people enjoy it. There are a couple brands of beer that I like on hot days if it's really really cold, but that's about it. Alexander Keith and Henakin.

Nothing wrong with Jack D. In fact if you're going to mix it with some coke you may as well use Jack Daniels instead of something really good.

Johnny Walker Blue label is my favorite Scotch whiskey, but I'll drink red, black, or green label too.  I don't drink Jack Daniels much, I find it a little too sweet after a few sips.  I don't like taking shots of whiskey, I always get the worst whiskey burps that make me wanna hurl...and I have before.

I also like sipping Wild Turkey, though I'm not sure what the difference between bourbon and whiskey is...I think one's corn and one's wheat?

Bourbon is a type of whiskey and yes it's with corn. Whiskey means it's made from a fermented grain mash.

It's because we're all cheap and/or poor (or both!) alcoholics, not  connoisseurs.

@Christoffer:Thread over. Lagavulin wins.

If you can't remember it, then you probably had the 16 year. If you had the natural cask strength 12 year, which is something like 120 proof . . . well . . . it definitely would have made a more lasting impression.

Chivas Regal is one of my favourites, and Jameson is also at the top of my list.

Makers Mark is awesome, and I also dig the taste of Hennessey (when I can afford it!).

The only whiskey I've had is Maker's Mark, and that's terrible. I'm going to guess that non-bourbon varieties are better.

I'm sad it took until page two, but glad there are others that can appreciate Jameson. My buddy keeps trying to get me to drink scotch, but for some reason I just haven't dug them so far. :/

@languedoctor:  Ok. Sounds reasonable :)

It was one of the first single malts I tried for some reason, and the first Islay by far. Wasn't even completely used to drinking whiskey back then so I think that skewed the experience a bit. But I will definitely try it again soon.
