Harrison Ford stars in: "Indiana Jones and the Search for More Cash"

Also, I've heard that they've gotten JJ Abrams to direct. The plot will involve Indiana Jones trying to stop a hipster neo-Nazi's who, like, totally idolizes Hitler from getting his hands on the Coffer of the Compact. Which is exactly like the Arc of the Covenant, but bigger.

I'm putting my money on Harrison Ford filling a similar role as he did in The Force Awakens. A character that will serve mainly to usher in the new main characters of the franchise. There will be a new 'Indiana Jones' coming out of this film, there's no way they can stay with Ford.

Whoops, Mutt died in Vietnam I guess, now to get to the mystical chakra crystals before Leonid Brezhnev reaches it first!

At the very least I hope this is entertaining. There's no denying that the Crystal Skull was an amazingly bad movie (compared to the movies that came before it), but maybe a new director can give the franchise some life. I wouldn't be surprised if they recast the son character and made another vague attempt at rebooting the franchise, but maybe Ford just says "hey, let's kill the guy in a pique of noble self-sacrifice and be done with it" as should be his right. Not that Disney would accept that in the long term, but maybe it'd give us a few years before Channing Tatum stars in Indiana Jones: Origins.

Actually, now that I think of it, who would have the right moxie to be a young Indiana Jones? Let's leave Miles Teller aside, because despite his symmetric chin scar, he seems like a bit of an ass. (Super happy he's apparently not in the running for the young Han Solo movie.) I could see maybe Joseph Gordon-Levitt having the requisite mugging skills for it. You'd need someone who could instantly switch from smug self-satisfaction (although maybe that's a trait that Indiana picks up later in his career) to wide-eyed exasperation at the drop of a fedora. Someone with good comedic timing. Who knows!

I keep hearing Chris Pratt mentioned as a possible young Indiana Jones.

Yeah, a local radio DJ mentioned Pratt, and at first I thought it kind of a bewildering choice. But the more I thought about it, it really makes sense. He can push complete confidence without coming across as an asshole, and Jones' quips wouldn't seem out of place coming from him.

I guess the only issue there would be that it'd be awfully close to a repetition of his Jurassic World character, but then, that character was pretty fun to watch.

One of the radio stations here was convinced that the movie will get a female lead, which could be interesting.

Although you have to wonder why they would make a female Indiana Jones as that would be competing with the supposed new Tomb Raider film.

I wonder what leading lady they would choose.

If people really care that much about continuity I guess they could say he's Indiana Jones' ..brother? Because he already looks just as old as when Indy first got started, so I don't know how they would sell the whole "this is the same guy but younger!" concept. Either way I have enjoyed Chris Pratt in everything I've seen him in - Guardians of the Galaxy is pretty much the only one of those Marvel movies I really enjoyed and wasn't just mildly indifferent/bored when watching it.

Harrison Ford must be constantly stoned whenever Spielberg shows up at his house.

"Hey, bro. What about like.... this time ... its time travel! Wooooah."

Shia LaBeouf is not onboard, and this will be the first Indiana Jones movie without George Lucas.

Those two factors alone will likely make this far better.

Also fwiw, and I'm not being contrarian or trolling or anything, but I don't think Crystal Skull was completely terrible.

Take out the refrigerator--I'm pretty sure that's not how "refrigerator logic" is supposed to work, George Lucas--the aliens, and the tragedy that was the casting of the son, and I enjoyed a fair amount of that movie as well. Just about every part that didn't have to do with those three things. I especially loved seeing the return of Karen Allen.

It was announced today that Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford are teaming up with Disney to produce a fifth Indiana Jones movie, expected to be released on July 19, 2019. Shia LaBeouf is not onboard, and this will be the first Indiana Jones movie without George Lucas.

I thought that Hollywood learned its lesson from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but I guess their only conclusion was "ditch Lucas and LaBeouf."

As conclusions go, "ditch Lucas and LaBeouf" is never a wrong one...ever. ;-) But I have to admit I just wish they would stop making these movies. I think Harrison Ford phones is all his roles in the past five years, People disagree with me, but in the latest Star Wars I though he was TERRIBLE. He delivers his lines poorly, he doesn't seem present or caring, and I got zero thrill form seeing him just go through the pacers.

So, why the hell drag him back into Indiana Jones where he showed off EXACTLY how indifferent he was to acting anymore. Start over with a younger Indy, maybe a guy in his mid 20s with a new actor. If they want Harrison back then make his Indy's grandfather who is 80 in 1924, but don;t give him the hat, coat, and whip EVER again.

Yeah, I don't really know what positive direction they could take this franchise. Harrison Ford is too old at this point and quite arguably was for Crystal Skull, and they already exhausted trying to sidestep this reality with humor in that one. The suggestion of Joseph Gordon-Levitt as young Indy by @rorie is the best idea I've heard, because JGL is great in everything he's in. Even there, though, you'd need Ford to emulate Connery in Last Crusade, and that coupled with the last Star Wars movie where they already reprised an old formula AND used Harrison Ford in a very similar role in the last Indiana Jones movie would deservedly lead to serious backlash. This seems doomed.

You are correct, a female Indiana Jones is just Lara Croft? And, I supposed younger Indiana Jones is Nathan Drake. Or, when you get down to it what are we talking about really are serialized heroes based on Allan Quatermain from the eponymous 1887 novel, or something similar.

I think they should forget the Indy's sons angle or handing over a 'mantel' plot. Just go back, in the Bond style, get a new actor who plays "the" Indy, because there is only one..fuckin Dr Who. Harrison Ford was 38/29 when he took the role of Dr Jones, it was a nice choices since some of the humor of Indiana Jones is he complains about being TOO old all the time....and Ford made a proper looking academic dweeb as well as looking buff in the adventure clothing.
