A man can claim it worthy of scorn and ridicule to believe that an all-powerful, all-wise God created man, woman, and every other living creature from the virgin earth; but then without a hint of irony, he can go on to say that what is more worthy of belief is that a lightning bolt in fact created all life on earth and it did it by forcing itself upon a dirty mud puddle.  One wonders if he would be so confident about the loving, friendly and creative nature of electricity if he were asked to engage it in close intimate friendship.  Or even the fertility of mud puddles for that matter.

In commemoration of that fantastical day I have drawn up a scientifically inclined recreation of what I imagined happened just at the moment before fire met earth for the first time.

My Biology teacher explained the theory I think you're referring to back in high school. I consider myself to be on the religious side, but yeah...this is a bit flame bait-ish.  Even though I've had debates about this before and have found some pretty major problems (IMO) with the theories, I'd rather not join in the argument that's about to ensue.

@Knight244: If you want to start a pointless religious argument please don't do it on Giant Bomb, I don't believe in god and I don't feel the need to make a thread about just to try to make religious people feel they are wrong are to convert them. Can we just leave each other alone and let everyone believe whatever they want?

@Mr_Skeleton: If I have to live in a world filled to the brim with people who believe that lightning bolts are the gods and want to force it down everyone's throat under the heading of scientific truth than I think you can show me some mercy and tolerate a small aside on the ridiculousness of the lightning bolt god on an off-topic forum on a video game website in the middle of nowhere.  Certainly you could have just as easily ignored me and continued the quest to find your missing eye had you been that opposed to debating the point.  And although I do believe in God I was really more interested in exposing the inherent flaw in believing that lightning could potentially create life and not simply electrocute it to death than in promoting the merits of my own religion.  What lightning does is really pretty in your face actually though.  It murders to death what it touches.
