Good old timey crime movies?

So for the last few days I have been playing Omerta: City of Gangsters and now I find myself in the mood to dive into that era some more by watching some movies. I was wondering what were some of your folks favourite gangster movies set back in the early 1900's? Don't really care if its from the cops side or the gangsters just something involving organized crime in that time period.

EDIT:Just to be a bit more clear I'm looking more for modern made movies, like stuff made from the 70's-80's forward, but just set during the early 1900's. Or at this point I'm just happy with peoples favourite crime/gang themed movies. I'm trying to find stuff that's good that wouldn't necessarily be in every single top 10 gangster films of all time kind of thing.

Matlese Falcon is good... The Big Sleep was alright, nowhere near as amazing as the book. I haven't seen other Raymond Chandler books made into movies, but I would say watch those too. Ummm a goo recent-er one would be Chinatown, it's a little long but the movie is so worth it! If I think of more I'll post some more.

I just watched The Untouchables on Netflix a few days ago and really enjoyed it. Nothing spectacular, but I'm a sucker for anything in the style of the early 1900's.

I was trying to remember the name of that movie. That was one of the ones I was looking for.

That's a really good one too. Also I think it might be set a little later, but Once Upon a Time in America was pretty crazy too.

@crusader8463: You should watch it! Also I think Gangster Squad is coming out soon or already is. I've been meaning to go see it, so hopefully sometime this week I can go do that.

I've only seen it once many years ago, but I recall The Sting to be great.

The Godfather. 
I like all 3 of the movies though the first one is clearly the best.

@PrimalHorse: I just watched a trailer on youtube and it looks interesting. I had avoided it because all I ever heard people say about it was that they didn't enjoy it. Maybe I will feel the same way but the trailer looked good enough that I'm willing to give it a go.

Chinatown was a good 1930-40's piece on LA during that time.

The Big Heat is a cool noir from Fritz Lang. More police procedural-stuff than most noirs, giving it a distinctive feel.

It's not a gangster movie but the original Oceans Eleven is a favorite of mine.

Rear Window is pretty good.

Bonnie and Clyde

Road to Perdition fits, though I don't remember loving it.

I know this is a little older than the time frame you mentioned, but Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is also great. I ended up watching The Sting (which was already mentioned) because of this movie.

And then, after all that, if you want a movie that makes fun of those tropes, there's always Johnny Dangerously which I have a weird love for, even though I know it's not a great movie.

The Godfather, LA Confidential, and The Untouchables are great. I haven't seen Goodfellas but that's supposed to be good. And I really love Dog Day Afternoon. It takes place during the early 70s so I'm not sure if that's "old timey" enough for ya but its a classic.

I like Road to Perdition, but it's primarily for its fantastic soundtrack and cinematography. In all honesty I didn't think Tom Hanks really fit the role and I was just never able to properly perceive him as a mobster, least of all the silent, stoic kind. Both Jude Law and Paul Newman are great, though, and even Daniel Craig does an OK job at playing a total scumbag.

Truly a beautiful movie... in a dark and violent kind of way i suppose.

As for other suggestions i'd say Public Enemies fits the profile and is definitely worth a watch.

Dont know if it is any good, but The Black Dahlia fits i think.

I watched Lawless some time ago, and thought it was kind of cool. Lower tier booze mafia stuff.

I watched The Sting last week, that move is quite good. It's a bit like a less wacky version of The Italian Job.

if you are willing to be flexible, Brick is a great movie. While it takes place in what feels like a early 2000s American high school, it is a crime noir film through an through, and a really good one. its heavily influenced by the great noir movies and the hard-boiled detective novels of Dashiell Hammett.

It's already been mentioned, but that's not gonna stop me: You SHOULD really watch Boardwalk Empire.

I know it's a TV show and all but it's set in Atlantic city during the 1920'es and it stars Steve Buscemi in one of his best roles, plus Martin Scorcese is a producer, and he also directed the pilot, on the show and one of the head writers from The Sopranose created it... so... yeah it's pretty great to say the least.

Just watch it.

I second Boardwalk Empire. The characters are decent, one in particular is amazing and I love him. That is all I can say without spoiling, though it is one of my favorite gang related pieces of media, without a doubt my favorite gang drama TV show. I recommend checking it out.

Millers Crossing, The Departed, Reservoir Dogs, Scarface (old or new), Goodfellas (These last were listed in no particular order.)

HEAT, with Pachino and de Niro. Great movie from the 90's!

@PenguinDust: Thanks for taking the time to make the list and include links. I know how much work a post like that can take some times. I already had a lot of those on the list, but I added the Asian films near the bottom for some variety. They look extremely interesting.

Any who, just got done watching LA Confidential -I really enjoyed it- and am about to watch road to perdition. It's been a movie I have been meaning to watch for awhile now but I kept putting it off. Here's hoping it's a good one!
