So after drinking countless bottles/cans of Bud light, Heiniken, Coors and all those other shitty american lagers, I decided to try something different. So i bought a 4-pack of Guinness as a first choice and was hooked. But a 9 bucks a pack, i cant exactly make it an every day thing so im wondering what are some good American (if there are any) alternatives/stouts?

You pay for what you get my friend, I'm not really sure if this is any better for price but Kilkenny is an awesome beer a little similar to Guinness.

I used to drink exclusively Guinness but then my friend showed my Yuengling (Highly recommended if you live 'round the PA parts) and I've been hooked to that and Sparks ever since. Still, I'd say just keep trying random beers till you find something you like as a replacement or just keep drinking as many different styles as you can. It's always fun to stumble upon something great.

There's a Quebecois brewery called St. Ambroise, and they make an Oatmeal Stout. (Bottle only). I don't drink (but I used to work at a Beer-only retailer), and anyone who drank Guiness was directed to St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout whenever we ran out of Guiness by a former co-worker of mine (or whenever my boss wasn't around, and the dude felt ballsy enough to break company policy and recommend an alternative when the requested beer was in stock.)

So yeah, if you live in the Northeast U.S., there's a chance you'll be able to get your hands on St. Ambroise.

Guinness is lovely. If I could afford it, I'd drink it every day. Unfortunately there aren't really any decent alternatives out there.

I suggest you move to Dublin.  As for substitutes, forget about it.  There is only one Guinness.  Try not to be such a snob about it.   Go to the beer/wine or ABC store and try out something new every week end.  Till you find something nice.

Also buy a keg, if you want to save money.  I keep MGD, Beck Dark, and Guinness on tap.  Straight pints always get me more hammered, then drinking from cans/bottles.  You can just drink from a glass, so I drink it faster.  Plus frosty mugs and chilled Guinness from a tap, in your den is always going to taste better then.  Pulling a can from the case. Unless you live with your parents... Then you shouldn't be drinking beer anyway.

And even then, you have to find a place that can pull a good pint.
