Why does Canada have a day?
Celebrating when the Canada essentially became a country on its own right. Before it was a country it was basically a bunch of British colonies with the province of Canada. Before that, it belonged to the Natives (the buying/negotiating/taking of their land... I'm not too happy about)!
So it's the equivalent of having an independence day? .....Fine, I'll let it slide.@AhmadMetallic said:

Kinda, I edited it a bit to describe it a bit more.
Frankly I'm surprised 1812 isn't celebrated a bit more - it would irk a lot of Americans for sure, but as a country, there's something to be said about being able to work together to defend itself as a nation.
Yup Happy Canada day to all my fellow Canadian bombers. So glad I don't have work today so I can actually enjoy it with some friends.
Yeah, JCTango explained it's like an independence day. We have that.@AhmadMetallic said:
Why does Canada have a day?Does your country not? All three countries I'm a citizen in have days like that. Bastille day or Independence day for example.
You're a citizen in three different countries? Are you a spy?

...are you not? (Man, I think I've watched too much Archer lately)
Yeah it was a matter of being born and raised in a country that my parents aren't from, and then they're each from their own corner of the world, and I kinda just lucked out.
Between today, the 4th of July and Bastille day on the 14th, July is always a very celebratory month for me.

Canada, I still love you even if you are responsible for Tom Green, Celine Dion , Nickleback and Justin Beiber.
We're also responsible for:
Dan Aykroyd
Michael J. Fox
Micheal Cera
Nathan Fillion (aka nerdom's most favourite celebrity)
Leslie Nielsen
Ellen Page
William Shatner (aka The Shat)
John Candy
Eugene Levy
Seth Rogen
Elisha Cuthbert
Brendan Fraser
Rush
Arcade Fire
the Tragically Hip
Neil Young
BTO and The Guess Who
Joni Mitchell
Oscar Peterson
and a shit ton of lesser known but still kickass bands that you can discover from thing like the Polaris Music Prize.
And that's a small fraction of the awesome actors and musicians from Canada.
Happy Canada Day everyone! If you want some stereotypical ways to celebrate, at some point today why not grab some beer that's at least 7% alcohol, have some poutine, perhaps cook some "back bacon" for breakfast, or have some nice and dirty Kraft Dinner original. I might consider starting to even have the conversation about apologizing for pop icons when people from the states want to apologize for Barry Mannilow, Britney Spears, and Fred Durst. ;P

The key difference being that America started a war to leave Britain, while Canada just asked the Queen to sign a piece of paper saying we were leaving. Which is why the British Monarch is still technically the head of Canada when they is in the country. Canada exists because of a British law.
