I missed the theatrical release unfortunately. Have any of you seen this movie? How does it stack up against other modern warfare interpretations like Black Hawk Down and Generation Kill?

I saw this movie last night due to the fact that my parent works at a video store and gets to bring home unreleased movies. its pretty intense, a lot of great moments and action. its more suspenseful then it is action packed.

I've seen it. I've never seen Generation Kill so I can't compare to that, but I thought it was very good, it's a really straightforward movie in a lot of ways, because unlike most modern warfare movies (especially dealing with recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan) it doesn't get bogged down in morality, politics, glamourisation of soldiers or anything that requires the film maker to put their own opinions into the film, it just shows you these three characters and the reality of their lives.

Awesome movie, very intense, and as someone already said its more about the suspense than action. Definitely recommend seeing it.

Yeah, I've been meaning to see it too. The last recent war film I've really loved was Jarhead and I thought that was a pretty realistic view of modern warfare.

For those who haven't seen Generation Kill, I highly recommend it. It's an HBO mini-series telling the story of a unit whom took part in the initial invasion of Iraq. You can see a promo here.

It's brilliant.  Hard to compare to Black Hawk Down - they're very different.  BHD is the better actiony shoot everything up war movie, but The Hurt Locker is the better movie.  I'd say it's a lot closer to Jarhead - in fact you could almost consider it a (superior) companion piece to Jarhead.

The thing that really makes The Hurt Locker shine is Jeremy Renner's performance.  That part is a very fine line, and if he'd gone either side of it, the whole film would have fallen flat on it's face.  He deserves recognition for it; I haven't seen anybody carry a movie like that for a long time.

The Hurt Locker is an excellent film, and hopefully you'll get to check it out soon on DVD. It's not full of wall-to-wall run-and-gun action, but it's more suspenseful and thrilling because of what it lacks. Jeremy Renner, who's the hotshot "hero" of the film puts in great work in his role as well- you're never sure if you're supposed to like him but you're always invested in his choices and reasoning for said choices.

I saw it, it was good, I didn't quite think it was the masterpiece I read it was but It was definately very tense and  well shot.  I was not fond of the boys sitting in front of me that  chatted through the tense action stuff like they were watching someone play Call of Duty shouting out things like "Headshot" evey so often.

Brooo. Generation Kill was great. I loved the ending too.
As for The Hurt Locker, it should be arriving Wednesday from Netflix and look forward to it greatly.

I personally couldn't make a comparison but it looks pretty good and from the looks of the trailer it won a few awards. I had never heard of it before, but now I kind of want to watch it.

I saw it. I thought it had several great scenes mixed amongst tediousness and wasted tension.

Anyone know how the quality of the Blu Ray of this is? I've heard it's only marginally better than the DVD, so I'm not sure which to buy. Looks interesting from the trailer.

It's a great movie, but it's very depressing, seeing as you're going to war I would not recommend it.

It's not better than Black Hawk Down (to whoever said it was), but I never compared the two until now. Reminded me most of Jarhead, except THL has action for the sake of realism (how I like my movies). Only watched a couple episodes of Generation Kill until I tuned out, didn't grab me like Over There did (RIP). The Hurt Locker's protagonist had too many macho moments, but had well-written camaraderie and drama.
