Wikipedia is a non profit website. Without donations it would get shut down. It got me through college and I like having it around so I donate every year.

Wikipedia is one of the most valuable resources in the modern world. Imagine if electricity was non-profit and needed donations to keep running. It is pretty much the same thing, except more important.

I gave them 100$ a few years back. I use it all the time, it's amazing.

Nope. I think they deserve it slightly more than the average Internet forum, since they both have hosting and curation costs but Wikipedia doesn't have ad revenue. But the content is entirely user-created, and I don't use it enough to justify donating to them without donating to, say, the Nissan forums as well.

I'll usually give up 5 bucks. Good, solid number. Every time I see the donation thing I just remind myself its like the Humble Bundle of Info.

I love wikipedia but I've never donated. Only because I'm poor though. I respect their commitment to staying non-profit and ad free, but honestly I wouldn't really care if they started using reasonable ads. I think asking me to buy some Sprite is less annoying then begging me for money.
