Edit: Eh I figured it out in the end, basically tried my best to explain them. Hope that my good work in the other tasks/questions are enought for me to get a pass on this assignment :P.
Help with English homework.
As a language instructor at the college level, I can tell you that this is the wrong way to go. Having others do your homework constitutes plagiarism and is enough to get you permanently expelled from any respectable university. You'd be much better off to be honest with your instructor even if it means you don't have your homework done on time.
@Juvenfly:
Yeah I know that, but if I don't hand in something that's good enough I won't be able to come up for the exams later this year, I wouldn't ask for this kind off help if I didn't feel it was a last option... I've sat here since 5pm(it's almost 9pm here..) and nothing has come to my mind or I haven't found anything of help in my textbooks.
Heia Norge! :)
I myself will be studying English "first year" (which is the same course as you, I am just not going for bachelor), and the biggest problem I got with assignments like this, is that you can edit out the whole sentence and make the same point, just different. I will try my best, but do not take my answers as "textbook correct", I am just trying to help :)
As I typed my answers, I realized why I suck at assignments such as this one, because some of these sentences just "sounds wrong", hard for me to describe it.
It is like I would have expressed myself in a totally different manner.
1. (a) There is a rumour that hostilities have broken out.
(b) It is a rumour that hostilities have broken out.*
(a) is the correct sentence, b really sounds wrong, because hostilities is specific plural. @Marcsman:
2. (a) Are there many informations on this matter?*
(b) is the correct sentence, because information is in this context specific plural.
(b) Is there much information on this matter?
3. (a) The porter called me a taxi. *
Both of these sentences are written correctly, however, I reckon (a) is about the porter calling for a taxi, then the sentence would be The porter called for a taxi for me, but then again, this confused me.
(b) The porter called me a fool.
That asshole, lol
4. (a) There's no good trying to do that.
(b) It's no good trying to do that.
Both sounds wrong, so I dunno.
5. (a) He is a very shaving man.
(b) He is a very surprising man.
(a) I reckon it is about he likes to shave a lot? damn these sentences doesn't make any sense..
6. (a) Mary sounds a very interesting girl.
Mary sounds like a very interesting girl
(b) Mary knows a very interesting girl.
correct
7. (a) He was feeling her words deeply.
(b) He was feeling his wound carefully.
8. (a) John turned the page.
correct
(b) John turned the corner.
My guess is: John turned around the corner.
9. (a) He wished her luck.
(b) He wished her dead.
This is just a wild guess, (b) is wrong because the phrase is usually He wishes her dead, or so I think.
10.(a) Not even two months ago was there much snow in this area.
(b) Not even two months ago there was lots of snow in this area.
both sounds wrong, because I have no idea how a sentence like this could ever be brought up in a conversation, so I cannot help you here. At least
not by starting the sentence with "Not even 2 months ago", sounds very Norwegian-English like.
Hey thanks for you're help man :). Yeah some of the sentences are correct btw and don't really need explanation(at least that's how I understood it). But I also agree that the sentences don't really make sense, I've had alot of assignments like these were the sentences in the tasks don't really make that much sense, so is kinda hard to explain what need explanation.
But again, thanks man :). At least I have something to work further on.
Edit: I just finished up my assignment, so can a Mod maybe close this topic please? Really no use for it being here anymore :P.
