How do you combat a 'cock-blocker'?

I know this may not be the best place to seek relationship advice (it being a gaming website) but hey, I love this site and its people and for some reason I've grown to trust you guys so I'll see how this goes.

Basically there is this girl I'm interested in and I think she may be interested in me too- if a little unsure. We've only met once or twice though, through a mate of mine at parties and what not, so actually getting the opportunity to even talk to her again is proving difficult. My issue isn't with talking to her and not knowing what to say, I've never really had that issue, rather its the simple logistics of the situation. The problem is, is that my mate has gotten wind of this attraction and is doing everything in his power to block any possible opportunity I might have- i.e constantly making excuses as to why we don't all just meet up like before. This is because he himself has had a major crush on this girl for years but has always been too feeble to do anything about it- hence why he's strictly in her 'friends zone'. Basically he's turned into a bit of an asshole- he thinks if he can't have her then why should I even get to have a chance. To make matters even more awkward, my mate seems to be under the false impression that I also have 'a thing' for this girl's ugly, frankly desperate, best friend and is trying his hardest to pawn me on to her. WHAT SHOULD I DO TO GET ROUND THIS BASTARD GIANTBOMB?!?

you have several options.

1. get rid of him. stop going through him, and find out where she lives on your own. or find her number on your own. take him out of the equasion.
2. forget about her. there are plenty of girls, stop being a dick to your friend and let him have her, he called dibs.

Why don't you discuss it with him? Or isn't there any other way of contacting her, you didn't get her number?

@Moreau_MD: Sit him aside and tell him this is happening no matter what he tries to do and if he reacts poorly you should ask her out to lunch and rub it in his face as much as possible. I've had a similar problem before, but it just kinda fixed its self before I even really noticed.

Your friend isnt necessarily being an asshole, you just both have a conflict of interest now.

As I sort of said originally, it's not at the stage where we can just both meet up out of the blue- if it was then I wouldn't have a problem. I'd like to get to know this girl but, unfortunately, given the social situation I can't do that unless it's through him. It would look really creepy to just have a guy you met once or twice at a party suddenly ask you if you wanted to meet up- but not if its with the mate you both know and you're in a group. That simple, mundane, situation would be all that's required for me to catapult it to something bigger- doesn't look like my mate's ever going to let that situation happen though.

Tell your "friend" to shit or get off the pot. He had a crush on this girl for a while now? Give him the courtesy to do something about it now. Not in a week. Not in a month. NOW. He's being selfish to you and an asshole.
