Oh man, I have always spelled it fourty. According to my sources (Oxford dictionary and Wikitionary) this is wrong, so consider me a forty-man from now on.
You know you could have tried a dictionary and saved yourself the public embarrassment...just saying. In fact wasn't the red line under fourty when you typed it in a massive tip off?
@Cube: Sorry but you're getting a little carried away with your u's there. Though I'm like you I refuse to ever change honour/colour/favour etc. Another weird American spelling I wasn't aware of until recently is tire. Seriously I know the things carry you around all day but it's not like they need a rest or anything.
Unlike "humour", "labour", "rumour" and lots of other words we Canadians spell "forty" the same as Americans. Just because one random website says we don't doesn't make it true.

Spot the spelling error: The tyre on my car, which I had a licence for, was black in colour, like my pyjamas, which I must emphasise matched my moustache, which made me look like a paedophile with a fetish for analogue over digital, which was on the programme I watched recently, to fulfil my desire to measure myself in metres, and in defence of my behaviour which could lead to gaol, I manoeuvred well around, despite the draught that ensued as I ploughed through all of the jewellery I had, some of them being artefacts.
No way, are you suggesting Americans adopt these spellings: license, pajamas, mostache, pedophile, draft and artifacts. Man I'm going to have to search some of those up I just don't believe it.
Edit: Holy shit pajamas is really how they spell it! Also on the subject of programme spelling it program is just plain wrong not a creative interpretation. The English language has both program and programme but each has different uses, e.g. you buy a programme at the theatre (god there's another one) but you run a program on your computer.
Also bravo oldschool I just read that again and there were a lot more Americanisms in there than I initially noticed!

@oldschool: That made me sick reading it. As an United States citizen that assaulted my brain. Not because it was but because everything looked so damn wrong. @gunslingerNZ: Efficiency my dear friend. Program takes up less space. Programme just seems so unnecessary. Why do those last two letters need to be there?
It could be Fourty over here in NZ and Forty in the US because the US are too stingy and leave out the 'u' in everything. Just another colour, color thing.
