And what country do you live in?

I was just talking to a buddy of mine and he said he hadn't been to the Dentist in nearly 2 years. Seemed crazy to me.... I've gone every 6 months for the entirety of my life. I assumed everyone else (at least here in the US) did as well.

Just curious.

I haven't gone for 7 years or so.

I don't think my family has medical insurance. Oh, and I live in the US.

Every 6 months, it turns out that my grandmother is my hygenist, so it's easy to remember to go.

That seems insane to me. I mean... I haven't been to the doctor in probably 10 years (haven't been sick, or felt like I needed to) so I don't regular physicals and everything (as I probably should,) and that's porbably crazy, but, I don't know. You must have cavities.

I brush twice a day every day, so hopefully not.

Like I said, my family doesn't have medical insurance. I'm 17, my mom and dad are divorced, both make poor wages, and we live in the land of the ass economy where my family falls just below the line of where the middle class will split between lower and upper. The dentist is the least of my worries. I have to figure out how to go to college.

There are some stereotypes regarding "bad" teeth in certain parts of the world (as in parts of Europe [UK especially,] and parts of Asia [Japan especially.]) Just wondering is those parts of the world see going to the Dentist diligently every 6 months as routine, like the US did (or at least I assmued the vast majority of it did.)"

It wasn't really a stereotype, it was the effect of the poor health insurance coverage that the UK used to have. That's changed though and few actually buy into this rumor. I have no clue about coverage in Asia, though.

I haven't been to any doctor for 2 years now. My teeth are ok except from the decay because of smoking (haven't had one for 1 month now :)) and my hamstring was pulled when I was running a marathon (the most painful experience I've had in my life).

I just keep forgetting :\

Canada's free health care FTW?

Free to go twice a year (excluding operations -- gov't gives you 50% or so of them).

Just got back from the dentist. Never a pleasant experience.

I go about ever 6 or seven months, a year at most is the longest I'll ever go without seeing them if I procrastinate.

Dentists are sick twisted individuals and i have only been once since i was a kid and that was because i broke a tooth. I gather its tolerable in the U.S. cos they use Nitrous Oxide and stuff to numb you and generally have better equipment to make the experience less horrible. But over in Ireland they use shity local anasethetics that do jack shit for the pain, they numb your mouth, but you still feel every little thing they are doing. Plus the dentists i went to were extremely rough and didnt give a shit if they were hurting you.
If you saw Steve Martin in the "Little shop of Horrors" you get an idea of what dentists in this Country are like.

Never going again unless i have no choice

I used to go every 6 months until I was 18 or 19 at which point it was no longer freely insured. This was in Holland. Then I emigrated to the UK where it was impossible to find an NHS dentist who would take new patients so I didn't go again until I was back home for the summer a year later. The dentist told me my teeth were in perfect shape. Now, up until that point every time I had been to the dentist he had said I really should brush better etc, etc. So apparently by going to the dentist less my teeth were getting better. My theory is that because I didn't go for a year I was brushing much more thoroughly out of sheer paranoia, hence better teeth, but ultimately I was left wondering why I had just paid a 100 euros for a dentist to tell me "keep up the good work"...

I'm currently in France and I'm gonna register with a new dentist one of these days, but I'm not in a hurry. I guess at this point it's been over two years since the last visit.

I haven't been since I was about 12. I went every 6 months until I was 12 and haven't needed to go since. Generally, once all you're baby teeth are out, and your real teeth are in, as long as you take good care of your teeth there should be no real need to go to the dentist. Although I'll probably have to go to the dentist soon. My wisdom teeth are starting to poke through.

UK every 6 months. The sterotype about bad teeth has some truth to it when regarding people over 40 here
