I hate going on any thread with over than 3 pages of comments. I definitely agree your voice or opinion would be lost or got mentioned before. But then starting another topic would only get the thread locked so...
sadly, that's how internet forums are.
I hate jumping in to a topic with 150+ comments.
@Getz said:Yeah, that's the magic of @replies creating a PM.@FourWude: @Ahmad_Metallic: It's not really "de-railed" when it's just you two having a private conversation, haha.I've seen that happen in many threads. Sometimes a thread will be 6 pages long and two people having a conversation make up 3 of those pages.

That's pretty much what most long ass threads are like. It ends up with a few people bitching over something which has nothing to do with the thread in question.
I don't know but this thread is de-railing quite a bit. It's barely on topic now, people just spam posting to push it past 150.... although I'm guilty as charged of that offence.
@Claude said:Regardless, it's still been enlightening. Seems like most people share my opinion, and tend to view large topics as a breeding ground for thought-less spam, memes, and a few rabble-rousers arguing amongst themselves. It's a shame, but I guess I can't really expect anything more. I'm just glad I can still comment here without someone calling me out on my principles. If we hit 150 though, I'm fuckin' outtie.@Getz said:

@Claude said:Some conversations are great if they're for the betterment of the thread. I do like some information.@Getz said:Yeah, that's the magic of @replies creating a PM.@FourWude: @Ahmad_Metallic: It's not really "de-railed" when it's just you two having a private conversation, haha.I've seen that happen in many threads. That's illegal in most states.Getting in on this action while it still young and under 60.
AbsolutePunk is the worst about long threads. The music threads especially. One topic has over 3,000 replies. Maybe I'm just different but I think their community is too big. There's no connection to the community whatsoever, it's just a bunch of names and icons. You don't get to know anybody specifically on the forums like you do here or on any smaller forum.

But there again, that's the thread of life, unless a mod locks it. But mods aren't gods, just pimps like us...with power.
Does anybody else want to get this past 150 comments and watch the whole thread collapse like somebody blew up a long abandoned building?
In topics like this with more then 2 pages I will just read the OP and maybe 4-5 posts below it, then skip to the last 4-5 posts and go from there.
What I would love to see is a moderator locking this before reaching 150 posts, just to be humorous. There isn't much going on in this thread worth discussing, but I will at least attempt it.
Regardless of the length of the thread, usually a forum thread stays good so long as the parties involved are intelligent enough and mature enough to engage in conversation with the intent of furthering the topic along, having everyone learn something whether it was a minor or major learning experience. However so long as literally anyone can join in a public forum thread, there will always be a portion of a public thread filled with useless words coming out of immature people that find a kick in harassing others either directly or with passive literary methods.
I just hop in a thread regardless to see if there is anything of value to me personally to discuss or make a comment on. Otherwise I just move on to another one. Just because the immaturity happens often in long threads, it doesn't mean I will not give an unread one a chance first.
