Post on the forums a fair bit, and get involved in the community. You'll get to know people on the forums and what they're like, and pretty soon you'll end up with friend requests, and you'll find you've been talking to people for long enough that you'll want to send people friend requests. Also, check out the IRC. It's a great way to chat to people on Giant Bomb and get to know them. All the information about all the community stuff going on is in the Community Spotlight thread.

Kind of makes you wonder what the point is in having forum friends. I suppose it is a bit flattering when people notice you enough to add you. Every one of mine were people who added me. I actually bothered to ask 2 people, and they didn't reply :-( I don't do rejection well :-)
As far as i see it, friends lists on sites like this is more of a tracking system, you like someone's viewpoint or blogs, add them, that allows you to stalk/follow their activity.
By begging for friends you get the friends you should probably avoid. Just become active on the boards and send out friend requests to people who have similar interests. That's... how you make friends...
