I took a break from video games to watch two movies in the last 24 hours and it was a good decision. Awake was the first movie I watched where a heart transplant patient wasn't fully anesthetized but paralyzed so he could feel and hear what was going on around him to his horror. The other movie I watched was Stranger than Fiction with Will Ferrell which was an excellent movie about a man whose life is suddenly being narrated. Has anyone watched some great movies lately that aren't well known? Also, I have continued going through Half-Life 2 trying to get where I left off before quitting on Xbox 360 but I am getting close after another hour of game play. I tried going through Ravenholm using just the gravity gun but kept losing my saw blades so that was a miss I guess.
I have watched two great movies today, what next?

There's a few I've watched on Netflix. Crude is a documentary on an oil-spill in Ecuador. Senna is a documentary on Ayrton Senna. This is fairly well known but I just watched Old Boy. All of these movies were really good. Also I watched a ton of Top Gear on Netflix. That's a hell of a show.
I just watched My Son My Son What Have Ye Done on Netflix streaming. Amazing movie, with a great soundtrack, but definitely not for everyone.
Take a chance on Take Shelter.
@JasonR86: I will have to check through all of those movies definitely. I get in moods where I just watch documentaries straight so I will have to put those movies on my list.
Unfortunately I don't have Netflix but if I can get my sister to let me bum off hers for a bit I may try to catch up on some of those. Movies I have right now are: Changeling, Body of Lies, Artificial Intelligence, and Kingdom of Heaven. I watched Taken a few days ago and just decided I wanted to watch tons of movies with Liam Neeson in it so I borrowed Kingdom of Heaven from a friend.
On Netflix I just saw Red State yesterday and that was pretty damn good. I also saw 21 Jump Street in theaters today and that was hilarious.
Since documentaries are brought up, I recently watched The Interrupters. Give it a watch, next time documentaries fit your mood.
Children of men, Momento, Inglorious bastards, Tim and erics billion dollar movie, and attack the block.
Have you watched the "vengeance trilogy" (sympathy for mr. vengeance, oldboy, lady vengeance)? totally recommend those. 13 Assassins was really good. If you want a great, but weird movie that probably no one knows about, I recommend Bronson. It's fucking phenomenal. Also, The American Astronaut. It took me three months to figure out if I actually liked the American Astronaut, turns out I do. You can watch any Wes Anderson movie or any movie written by Charlie Kaufman and end up a winner. I could go on, but I won't.
Castaway on the Moon.
It's about a guy who tries to commit suicide by jumping into a river (he can't swim) and ends up stranded on this crappy little island underneath an overpass.
It's on Netflix and it's pretty great.
Good recommendation, but Drive likely opened up a lot of people's eyes to the rest of Refn's work, or even those interested in Tom Hardy have seen it. Valhalla Rising works better as a Refn film that hasn't reached the popularity of his others. Thumbs up for your Park and Miike recommendations. If you want a great, but weird movie that probably no one knows about, I recommend Bronson.
@jhudson3: Ravenholm is when HL2 really started to click for me. Keep at it. Also, Drive is on iTunes streaming if you've got it. Watched it few weeks back. Not at all what I expected.
@joseffthered: I have actually never heard of ANY of those. But, I can try them out because I like watching different movies. I watch The Room and Samurai Cop just because they were laughably terrible.
@fox01313: Yeah, I tried my best but I kept getting frustrated so I sprinted through the entire place just wanting to get to the coast. Once I get mostly through the coast I should be right where I left off and I will get more excited about it. I have a difficult time getting through the beginning of games I have already played if I haven't finished it. I was originally going to wait to beat Half Life 1 before continuing with Half-Life 2 but I am guessing it won't matter too much as long as I beat them all whenever Half-Life 3 comes out (if it ever does).
I enjoyed Win Win and Lars and the Real Girl, saw both of those just a week ago, enjoyed both immensely.
I just watched the descendants. Id say thats worth a watch.
also Sunshine
and Children of Men....that movie is outstanding
hugo, My Week With Marilyn, The Ides of March, The Help, J edgar, Frost/Nixon, what dreams may come. some of the movies i watched recently and all of them are pretty good. Hugo is my fav out of all.
