Poll If All of Human Existence Happend in a Single Week, What Day Is It? (285 votes)

Day 1 (I love/hate Mondays) 17%
Day 2 17%
Day 3 11%
Day 4 8%
Day 5 12%
Day 6 8%
Day 7 (Sunday - the day for worship of God and rest) 6%
We are eternal. There is no beginning and no end. This poll is meaningless. AKA fence sitter option. Show results. 20%

Poll inspired by the Doomsday Clock, which predicts the End of All Human Life. As far as I know, it is currently sitting at 5 minutes to Midnight.

Are we living on our 7th day? Is this the time to worship one god or another, and rest? Or are we but at the beginning of our journey? Maybe there isn't an end to our predicament regardless of if we all die in nuclear hellfire or not?

What say you?

Maybe the rapture will be a big enough excuse to circumvent the day 1 attendance requirement my university has.

Fingers crossed!

I don't know what phase or era of the greater human condition we're in, but I can state that you probably shouldn't worship any gods, no matter how much candy they offer.

I think it's extremely short-sighted and narrow-minded to think that we are anywhere but the first few days of our existence. Humans are extremely resilient and while our future may not be exactly how we live now, we (at the very least a group of us) will survive. Our species has been on this planet for 200,000 years, our ancestors have been walking upright for 5 million years. I think it is safe to say that we will be around for a little while still.

At least that's what Fallout tells me...

As far as we know we're perpetually at Day 7 until humanity ends and some other race can come along and decide which 'Day' 2014 is, any other answer presumes to know the future.

Human beings will always live. Maybe not in the state that we do now, but I think it would be damn near impossible to wipe the most influential species on Earth off the map.

Stupid question.

There's one theory that once you ask that question, probability states that the most likely placement in the timeline is in the middle, ~50% (bell curve and all that). However, that's a stupid theory because that implies some kind of "correct" time of asking the question - the answer is eternally 50% which is obviously incorrect. I'd like to think it's Day 1, but unless the nukes fall within my lifetime, I don't give a shit.

We're certainly a hardy bunch but I don't think we'll be around for a literal eternity.

i think with the overpopulating and way we burn through resources in an unsustainable manner we'll do a good job of that ourselves.

It's a misconception that the Earth is overpopulated. The population is aging at a rapid rate and is not being replenished with enough youth. That's really where the problem lies. Which is why China has relaxed their 1 Child policy.

While I agree that the typical view of the Earth as an overcrowded, desperate race to grab scarce resources is simplistic and based more on people's cynicism than the evidence... it is worth noting that the populations who are aging older are only those in developed nations. Developed nations with too few young people are not going to struggle to acquire enough natural resources, they're going to struggle to maintain the human resources necessary to keep the status quo. It's going to be those in developing nations who are both increasing in population and per capita resource usage that cause their own unique strains. Adding 4 billion to the planet's population in the poorest countries will cause less ecological devastation than upgrading the standard of living of the poorest 4 billion already on the planet.

And this isn't some crazy, isolationist "we can't help them, it'll doom us all" type thing; I fully support increasing the global standard of living as high as it can possibly go. I'm willing to have human lives be expensive, because I want human lives to be valuable and valued.

Always around? No. At some point in the far flung future humans will die out. Its inevitable. It might not be in 100 years, a 1,000 years , or 100,000 years. But eventually our species will die out. Something will happen. The planet might die. We might run out of resources and not be able to leave our planet. There might be some kind of war that kills off everything. Earth my be hit by an asteroid. Something is going to make humans extinct at some point. I mean its silly to think that humans will live until the end of time. But we did invent time. So I guess once we die out time also dies out. Hmm.

I like to look at the food and agricultural paradox as a good example of humanity's ingenuity in self-sustaining idealism. Since the dust bowl in the 1930's, agricultural scientists have predicted several times that the world would run out of food to feed people are the levels we do in developed nations. But, thanks to the speed at which we evolve and invent technology, this has yet to happen. Humanity develops at a speed in which we are able to continue living. We've built more efficient farms to continue food production, sustainable tree harvesting practices and other ways of making non-renewable resources, renewable. Oil and fresh drinking water are the current concerns as far as limited sustainability, but I honestly believe that human ingenuity will triumph once more. After all, it's the main desire of any species to keep on keepin' on.

True, I didn't think about a natural disaster like an asteroid or the sun burning out. I was more speaking of self-imposed destruction.

@alwaysbebombing: You do realize that the "agricultural revolution" of the mid-20th century sped us toward climate issues, right? The processes that create high-yield synthetic fertilizers that have helped feed the world during the rough times of the past century have only helped make those rough times more prevalent. And therein lies the crux of humanity's issues - we're usually bright enough to come up with an immediate solution to an issue, but we hardly ever take into account the side-effects that solution might have before we run with it.

I single week of what? I know you can't say because they gives it way unless you believe the bible like a dope. But I'll assume you mean the age of the earth as a planet...thus leaving off the billion of years when what we lived on was gas and the galaxy we live in was young. We can do the math...take teh avaerges....

But, before we go further why does this matter? We are insignificant specs...but Monty Python taught me that.

@monkeyking1969: he never said anything about Earth, he's talking about human beings. I would guess the start would be when we started being (relatively) intelligent, which is quite far away already, when compared to the average human life that is.
