This topic does not apply to me as I am in college. Just curious what others would do.
If you wanted to go to Prom but had no other option, would you take your sister?
That's a big "fuck no" for me. It would be the most uncomfortable thing I've ever done, and plus... everyone would just be pointing at us, asking "Isn't that *****'s sister?"
I'm in college now, too. Prom was a mistake for me. I didn't want to go, then at the last minute I decided to go. Managed to get a girl a few days before prom out of pure luck.
But people, seriously... unless you're the talk of the school, don't go alone. I saw one too many kids just kind of standing around by themselves, looking really uncomfortable and awkward. ...Just a friendly little piece of advice. Well, actually... the only good parts of prom are the pre-games and after-parties, anyway. If you don't have a date, no worries. Just try to swing by at least one after-party.
This is a bizarre question, but no, I would not take my brother to prom. That'd be really sad to be so desperate for a partner to prom that someone would resort to using a sibling. Senior prom was the only dance I went to in high school, and I simply met my friends there and we had a blast dancing the night away, even though the location was dinky and the music not so great at times. I also discovered my love of dancing in club-like settings that night. Fun stuff.
No. A cousin or something would be fine, though.
Now, if I had a younger sister, I think I would answer this differently, but my sister is a year older.
Just go with a male friend. You're supposed to be there with everyone you know from school so it doesn't matter who you arrive with. You get there and have fun, right?
Don't do it dude. Some people close to you might say things like "it's ok, no one will care" THEY ARE WRONG.
Nope, hell no. Prom's not worth it in the first place, but even if I was dying to go & needed a date, I'd take just about anyone but a sister (or a family member for that matter). There has to be some other alternative. I assure you that you can probably just stand in the middle of the mall for an entire day, ask every single girl that walks past if she'd be your date, and you're bound to find someone willing, even if they're weird/unattractive/ridiculously hot and out of your league and for some reason is going out with you which means she's either a saint or a succubus in disguise.
Nope, do soemthing original. Get a couple blow up dolls, dress them up and pretend it's your date. Maybe that's not origional, but it's what people always did at my school when they couldn't be bothered to get a date. Also, you could always ask a girl who is a few grades lower then you. They like to boast to there friends that they got to go to prom with a High Schooler, and constantly brag about it, so you will probably have to beat them off with a stick if you let them know you are looking for someone.
It doesn't really matter anyway unless you are going out with your date. Mine we were just friends and all you do is walk in, do a slow dance then stand around for friends and family to take pictures then go to the after party.
Is taking a girl to your prom THAT big of a deal in the US? When I had my prom after finishing school, hardly anyone had a date, most people came on their own or with their group of friends. It was really only people who were already in a relationship that came with their girlfriend. I guess it's just differenced between the UK and US.
