I have three Zunes.  One for me, one for my girlfriend, and one for my Dad.  I pay for the Zune marketplace subscription every month and we all get to download & sync as much music from the Marketplace as we want.  They've been great so far.

That being said, if you're not going to subscribe to the Zune marketplace and already have your own music to load onto your new device, just get an iPod or one of those new Creative MP3 players.

I would get a Zune...I haven't heard anything bad about them and I hear they support a ton of formats.  I'm probably going to get one myself when I have the money. ;)

I'd go for a Creative, but that's just me. It has more file support than an IPod, a bit more flexibility than a Zune, and I'm just a personal fan.

That said, Zunes have a nifty interface that I enjoyed using quite a bit. It's all up to personal preference.

I have a Zune and I heart it deeply. Well worth the change from an Ipod.

Get an iPod. I personally like the iTunes Store the best because you don't have to pay for a subscription. You buy the songs and you're done. Except for the DRM... you're never going to be able to get away from that. Well, there is the old "burn to a CD and then rip it" trick.

Also, Apple puts a lot more effort into the iPod than Microsoft does with the Zune. Go with the iPod. Stick with Microsoft for their OS and with Apple for their iPods.

What extra effort does Apple put with their Ipod's that MS doesn't provide?

They put no effort into the IPod. If they did, it'd be a much more satisfying product.

you say it's personal preference, and then you say this?

Look. Go to a store and check out the Zune (and creative too). If you find them to be more enjoyable than an ipod, get it. If you don't... well you keep getting new ipods for free. what's the big deal?

I'm saying it's personal preference between a Creative and a Zune. Never mentioned an IPod in that mix. Except to compare to the Creative.

You don't have to have a subscription to buy music for the Zune. You can buy the same songs for Zunes at same price as iTunes.

Here's a comparison, I strongly suggest you get a Zune for the Bigger screen and  radio .
