Indian-American wins pageant internet reacts like idiots.

This infuriates me to no end. I forgot that in order to be American you have to have white skin, I guess we should go ahead and boot out 150~ million people who clearly don't belong here.

But knowledge makes it so much easier to perform the actions you were going to do anyway, which I guess is my point in all this. It's hard to call knowledge a complete moral good when it's responsible for just and unjust things alike.

I was kind of excited for a moment. I miss read the topic title. I thought a (Native) American woman had won. I don't really follow these things, but I would wager that has never happened. Judging by how people reacted to this.

I also have this thing where I don't like how people are labeled Indian-American, or African-American or what ever. They are just Americans. If they were born here why are you prefacing what you call them by where their ancestors came from? Its really stupid. No one would ever call me a Norwegian-American. They would see I am Caucasian and just say American. I find it really dumb.

The internet is a bit of a double edged sword, while it give you access to vast amounts information with which you can use to educate yourself with it also give idiots and scumbags a platform from which they can spew their garbage.

I'm not a fan of beauty contests but since they chose to allow themselves to be judged on their attractiveness then I don't feel too bad saying this. The Indian lady deserved to win because she is way more attractive than the white lady.

Also I'm not the biggest fan of hunters, especially bow hunters. No offence to any hunters in the community I just can't be comfortable around anyone who thinks watching an animal suffer is a good time. So maybe I'm a little biased.

@omega: I think you have a skewed view of hunting. Its not about getting your rocks off at watching animals suffer.

I'm Indian and this makes me happy. Now I know that I too can be beautiful.

That's only because a hunting rifle requires two hands to operate.

Being a racist has nothing to do with education. It has to do with being an asshole that refuses to believe that all people are equal. You can teach a racist for 40 years why racism is bad, but that just means you taught him WHY him being an asshole is a bad thing. It doesn't mean he'll stop being a racist.

I'm pretty sure one of the goals of hunting is to kill the game as quickly and efficiently as possible so as to avoid seeing it suffer.

Shouldn't we treat knowledge as a neutral thing, with no inherent good or bad properties?

Exactly this. It is in many areas a vital activity to help control population. If the population of animals like deer become overpopulated in areas it can lead to scenarios where there won't be enough food and the animals will just die a slow painful death from starvation. Also, all of the hunters I know use every bit of the animal that they kill. My post wasn't about me being "offended" its about me being irritated by people with limited viewpoints speaking out in ignorance about something they have little to no knowledge of.

The people who said disparaging things are fucking racist and of very low intellect, but is that really news? An exceedingly large number of human beings are brainless scum. That isn't really a story worth talking about. We have ample evidence that a vast number of people speak from the perspective of abject ignorance (this to me is no different).

All I'm saying is that hunting should be a sombre necessity rather than a fun time activity. Enjoying yourself while killing something seems wrong to me. I'm not against hunting or killing animals for food. I eat meat, I understand that population control is important. I just don't want to be around people who enjoy the act of killing a real live creature whether its human or animal.

So to sum up my opinion. Hunting is okay, enjoying the act of killing not okay. Again really sorry to everyone for instigating this argument I honestly wasn't trying to be inflammatory I was merely trying to point out that I might be biased on the whole Miss Kansas thing since I saw in the story that she enjoys bow hunting.

Sometimes I'm really fucking embarrassed that I live in this country and share it with people that react like this.

Everybody's true colors come out when they get a hint of anonymity, but besides the few ghost account trolls all these people will have their ignorance displayed in public for the rest of their lives (or until the internet dies). I'm glad they post this stuff, basically ratting themselves out, most people just keep that stuff to the dinner table with friends and family so you can't really tell who you're dealing with sometimes.

I don't know why people give trailer park trash with an internet connection so much thought. Small town bigots can now reach millions instead just chatting at the local gun store. No need to even confirm their existence with a reply to their tweets.

Beauty pageants are really stupid so I'm not really surprised by the stupidity of the people who follow them.

I completely agree. It kills me that most people seem to be bothered by the fact that random anonymous people said mean things on the internet, more than the fact that OUR MEDIA REPORTED THIS CRAP. That should be the issue that people have with this.

The onion should do a news story about this were they look at random bigoted tweets, and report that issues such as racism and homophobia haven't completely gone away just yet, but they'll be back with another report tomorrow to see if anything has changed.

I thought these things died out already, I don't know how others find beauty pageants but I honestly think they put woman in a bad light. Why? It's just an appearance competition. We like to compete in anything. There are competitions for who can lift the heaviest thing. I have no problem with competitive aesthetics. Schwarzenegger was in beauty pageants.

Body building requires dedication and effort. Beauty pageants require that you're born with a great rack and pretty eyes. There's a bit of difference there.

Eh, body building also requires a bit of lucking out in the genetic lottery. So do most competitive things. And let's be fair, it's not like everyone falls out of bed and wins a beauty pageant.

While I'm ranting. You know why an Indian-America won this year? Because no one gives a shit about Miss America anymore (1991 - 26.5 million viewers, 2009 - 3.5 million viewers) and this was most likely an executive decision to generate some publicity/controversy.
