Hi, I have a 1st gen Nano which sucks. It has deleted itself about 4 times, what a pain in the ass. Anyway, now when I plug it in via the USB cable, it doesn't show any response. It has done this numerous times, but never for more than a day. I was listening to it last night! Did it finally die on me, or does anyone know any tips?
Thanks.

Don't ask questions. Just buy a new MP3 player.

I'd say it's time for a replacement.

From what you have said...I would assume it's finally died and time to get a new one.

try leaving it unplugged or playing it until it is completely dead, then recharge it and try it again. Maybe there is a way to do a master reset on it another way, but I don't know.

Come on. Nobody has some secret way of sticking in a paper clip to revamp the battery? I'm disappointed.

I'd try but currently it is dead and I can't turn it on. But thanks.

Have you tried the reset?

  1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
(Taken from apple's site)

It may work.
