Duders, is Air Force Gator actually a good read? I'm thinking of getting it, because I love the author unconditionaly (read: hate with a grudge), but I'm affraid that it is as horseshit as it sounds. I don't have as much time to read as I'd like, so I don't want to get stuck with a book that's not fancy. Right now It's between that and Masters Of Doom, but feel free to suggest whatever.
Is Air Force Gator Any Good?

I mean... Dan himself has said that it was some shit he wrote while he was drunk and watching wrestling on the side... so...
I think it has a lot of good jokes. Some miss, but mostly it's a consistently funny experience mostly devoid of wrestling references and similar Dan-isms. It's like Dan's sense of humor applied to a completely different cultural upbringing in a way. Don't expect deep or complex characterizations, but for what it is, a brief joke, it's a fairly succesful one.
P.s. I tried to find Sphere for the book club, but no dice. And by no dice, I mean its not on Amazon UK, so it might as well not exist as far as I'm concerned.
Weird.

I had the same trouble, so I clicked your links and they took me to the same dead-ends:
1st link goes to the kindle edition, or a hardback for GBP46, or a "bunko" paperback edition in Japanese print, or a abridged audio cassette for GBP15.
2nd link goes to show 1 paperback book available 2nd-hand from a trader with 91% satisfaction for GBP6 and a few hard-back editions that are all from the USA and will take 2 to 3 weeks to ship.
Weird!

http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/ is a much better place for books in the EU/UK. Sphere is very much available there.
How does it compare to The Tim Teebow CFL Chronicles by Jon Bois? They strike me as maybe cut from the same cloth, and the fact that both authors are from the same city makes me worry about that city's education system or water supply or something.
I haven't actually read it, but as an author myself, and someone that has been compared to Dan Ryckert on many occasions, I'm going to say it's probably not terrible.

That's probably why Amazon bought them then!
@sin4profit: I'm waiting for the audible version that's read by Jose Canseco's necrotic finger.
I'm about 2/3 through Air Force Gator right now and I'm trying not to say anything about it till I'm done.
That being said, I HAVE finished Curtain Call and it was really good. I only watched a bit of wrestling as a kid back in the early Hogan/WWF days and reading about stuff that went down near that time period was super cool.
I'll report back when I'm done with AFG =D
read both in one sitting. its dumb fun but you need to know what to expect. they mustve been pretty good i didnt put em down till i was done. bummed out i got em in the mail the same day dan started signing some.
I just read that first page on Amazon, and it seemed up my alley. So I bought it for my Kindle. Will be enjoying soon.
@fattony12000: Is that... real?
@mosespippy: well I mean it doesn't rate near the greatest thing in the last decade of American literature.
They are big dumb action books that are written well enough for you to enjoy them and finish them in a day. Which is a perfectly fine goal for a book.
@gregorygold: Yep.
Also
In 2015, I'll send a free, signed copy of AFG to anyone that gets an Air Force Gator sign clearly on the air during a televised WWE event.

The first one doesn't quite deliver on its premise. The second one is much better.
^ pretty much nailed it.
the first one is a bit rough with fewer laughs and a more straight-forward action movie approach.
the second is a fun, enjoyable read the whole way through
