Yes.
Is Giant Bomb better than it was a year ago?
was the persona 4 endurance run happening last year?
No? Then yes it's an improvement over last year.
The news section has obviously improved since they brought Patrick in, but the rest of the site is about the same. Seems like they have upped the number of Quick Looks and cut most of the other features. I think they are planning on bringing some features back and generally upping their game this fall to keep people subscribing.
I for one like the increased number of quick looks.
I think these guys are running about as hard as they can with the current staff. It does seem like they're "going through the motions" at this point but I feel like since their staff and resources are limited, to add anything else they'd have to cut somewhere else. Unless of course, they bring on more staff like good ol' Patrick.
The only reason I chose definitely better is because while the content is about the same, there have been some serious improvements to the way the site itself works. I love the new way videos are set up and I also enjoy the hell out of Happy Hour. I'm also happy to be able to directly and monetarily help these guys keep doing what they're doing. I don't care about the user level and quests as much as say achievement points on the 360 (which isn't all that much neither) but just that it's here is pretty awesome. Like when I'm just looking at or doing something and a little quest notification pops up. Good stuff.
What I'd really love to see is some sort of expansion to the profile system they've got going on here. They've got levels and experience and all that so it'd be cool if you could use it in some kind of gamey way. Sort of like what the 3DS does with it's miis. It's stupid but it's free and sort of entertaining.

This this this. :D
I really didn't actively participate in the going-ons around here, but the amount of changes to the actual site that I've witnessed pushed me to want to enjoy GB even more as a whole and consume all sorts of content. So I voted yes over here.
Yeah, the goofy stuff just doesn't feel as genuine as before. Everything changed once they moved to the big office. Don't get me wrong, I love Giant Bomb to death but... It's just not the same.@Deusx said:
Last year? yeah... Two years? HELL NO!That's how I feel as well. 2009 was a great year at GB.
Content that the staff pushes out ist the same(and awesome) while other things have gone to shit since the very beginning
Not for me. I miss the candid stuff they did before they expanded. Also not too much of a fan of "news". Giant Bomb has always been about the personality for me, I dont really come here because I want to know about From Dusts DRM.
The new direction discussed in the SNES Show sounds very promising. They're gonna take it to the next level.
Most definitely better. Patrick has taken a totally different route with news, posting the standard highlights while creating putting together some awesome features, and the new site layout is great. The addition of the subscriber features are amazing as well, HD video, HTML5, the happy hour, and so on. Can't wait to see what they have planned for this year.
In some ways yes, but I think the QLs used to be better; funny each time but now they seem to be just going through the motions.
And if you wanna talk about 2 years ago/when the site just launched that shit was WAYYY better. Lower quality, lower budget, but tell me you don't miss video things and the other weird shit that apparently they don't do anymore.
I'm gonna say maybe? It's hard to say. I wasn't a fan of the DP endurance run so I don't miss that. Patrick is an improvement to the site. Seems about the same to me though.
Right. Fine. I'm sorry for what I said but that's too far@Pie said:
@Hizang said:Are you an idiot?@TooWalrus: Well then Giant Bomb has been better each day after a year ago because it has had more video content and written articles than a year ago.
At least I am not a pie.
Well, for the last year or so, it feels like they've definitely been more professional because they have a much wider audience. Yes, stuff is less goofy and weird, but what site can honestly expand seriously on that for very long? And yet still sometimes we get a Happy Hour where all the Giant Bomb guys are dressed up as "Rival Video Game Website", legitimate fake business with Betting the Farmville, and sometimes just some pure unadulterated video game insanity, while also getting enough actual coverage of videogames so that we don't have to use other sites.
So, whether Giant Bomb is better or not depends on why you come to Giant Bomb. If you're here for the comedy and weird shit, I have to imagine you feel Giant Bomb is stronger than it was a year ago, but weaker than two years ago when the P4 ER was still going and there were still movies to TANG. If you're here for the community and to watch the smartest, most enjoyable gamers on the web talk about games (though still enjoy the comedy) the site is definitely better than it was a year ago, and in many ways is better than it's ever been.
One more note must be stressed, though; the interns created much of the best content this summer, and it's a shame they wound up with so few video features before they had to leave for their education. Unfortunately, neither feature they came up with can have that much longevity; I imagine the Fear Gauntlet will have to end eventually, and the regular GB crew are not cowards to run another one. Meanwhile, with The Metagame it's already becoming a little frustrating to keep seeing the same question cards crop up again and again, so I have to imagine that would be at best a once-a-month feature. But it goes to show that new blood can come up with really great ideas, so consider taking some inspiration from some of the other sites (hint: Screened) and cover some older games or tropes.
Actually, that's maybe a great idea. There's an extremely extensive wiki filled with loads of games, characters, and concepts, but only the games have any video footage. It would be cool to see video based on some of the other types of pages on the site.
