I use my kitty as my picture. 

I've used Max the Rabbit, John Marston, a nuclear explosion and a neon bar sign as my pic at various times. I think no.

I didn't have a picture of myself when I started my facebook, so I used a picture of Slash instead. My friend got so excited when Slash friended him, then he saw it was me. 
He rejected my friend request.

Apparently you don't know the meaning of inappropriate.

If people don't know what you look like, they shouldn't be your Facebook friends. 
 
 

i would say no. there can be different things for it like a pet, a friend, some cartoon character that you like. there is nothing wrong with that.

it kind of seems to defeat the point, at least from my perspective. Is it inappropriate? Not really. 

I dont think so, I have mine as a seaking right now for pokemon december, and when I first joined before I had any photos of me saved to my computer I just made a doodle me in paint as my profile picture.

Well, not inappropriate, but stupid certainly. The entire point of FB is to connect with other people. Putting something that's not a personal picture of you as your "display" picture is just another barrier in the way of that.

Mine is a picture of my penis with a little top hat on it. 

I changed it for that cartoon character thing they did last weekend so I don't see why not.

I currently have a picture of Georges St-Pierre as mine and it's fine. As long as you're not using someone else's picture to trick people into thinking you're not a Nintendo obsessed slob, then go nuts.

You should put a picture of a baby there. Then people will think you had a kid.. or that you somehow turned into a baby again.

I had Teddie until I found a picture of myself I liked. Those are hard to come by...

Given the nature of the site I think it's pretty stupid to use something other then a picture of you, but no there is nothing right or wrong about it.
