Alright so I understand that typically classics are older songs that have either some significant meaning in their contextual time frame, or they will do so in the future, or in some cases just have the feeling of a time that has passed and brings to mind older times. At any rate I listen to a pinch of Spice Girls every now and then and I was just wondering what you guys thought.

To bring a bit of context I was born in 1992 so is it at all possible to say that this song with its soft melodic melody and harmonies be considered classic?

Kinda like Jeff's argument that younger kids can claim halo is the best video game of all time.

I miss the Spice Girls.

Secret between us, I used to have a really big crush on Baby Spice when I was a kid.  No idea why, but she was the one I wanted to mary.  I was in fourth grade back then too.

Jeri spice, the one that we found out did porn years later, was kind of pudgy. But in all the right places imho.

That's odd, I remember hearing that the group broke up because 2 of the spices were pregnant...but that was not the truth either, I think this was back when I didn't know about the meaning of rumors.
Baby spice and sporty spice were my faves...anyone remember the amazing spice girls movie...yep. That and Nsync is what you get from having an older sister....oh the memories ha

John Lennon's "Imagine" is classic.

Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" is classic.

Beethoven's 5th is classic.

The Spice Girls' "2 Become 1"...is goddamn legendary.

It's a classic...I know this because even I know the bloody words to it lol

But yeah, the Spice Girls had some feel-good hits - thousands would agree and this was a good Chirstmas song.

Hahaha, me as well.

I am still a fan of Spice Girls music. I have plenty of guilty obsessions like that and enjoy some pop every now and then. And unlike most people I don't generally "grow out" of things I like.

Yup, Spice Girls pretty much ripped off TLC's sound. Waterfalls is a classic, as is Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg and maybe No Scrubs. I think Wannabe is the only SG song which even approaches classic status and in my opinion it's definitely not a classic.

Friend of mine used to always say "buncha hoes" everytime anyone said "spice girls."  And he never said it overtly either.  Just low  key.  Almost pavlonian.

None of us liked them much.  And we'd make fun of anyone who did.  You know, kids being kids.

Still don't listen to them, but eventually learned enough about them to understand what they had to overcome from the industry trying to force them into the standard mold.  And the fact that they stuck together and stuck to their guns and wrote their own songs and everything... Well, I may not have their cd in my car, but you still have to respect them.  Feel a little weird actually, having lumped them into the whole fabricated music scene.

As for "is it a classic?"  No.  That would make me old.  And I don't want to be old.

Considering the time frame of releases and the fact that SG didn't write any of their songs they weren't really ripping anyone off they were in that wave of pop bands that really overshadowed everthing in their time

TLC is a favorite of mine but my least favorite song of theirs is probably waterfalls...I honestly can't stand it I much prefer "Unpretty" that's a classic.

I still have Spice World on VHS. You heard me, I said VHS. Having said that, 2 Become 1 is not a classic. Say You'll Be There however, that is a classic in by any definition of the term.

I didn't mean the Spice Girls themselves ripped off TLC. They were manufactured by a management company, who set out to manufacture a British version of TLC (ie. Sassy tomyboyish girl band singing hip-hop influenced pop songs). That is documented as far as I remember. Nothing wrong with that, that's how manufactured pop works, but they didn't do it as well as TLC in my opinion. Time frame makes sense, Crazy Sexy Cool came out a couple of years before Spice Girls' first album and TLC were pretty huge in America and were beginning to become successful in the UK.

I tried not to put say you'll be there or "Wannabe" on here because thos e are OBVIOUSLY classics...AMIRITE? Wannabe made up a word that has to be in the classics handbook. Anyways I must agree with you whole-heartedly...except for the 2become 1 part .
